This neighborhood has been under the spotlight of a controversial issue lately. It is an area near the castle where peasants once lived. There have been many older, classic houses that have been replaced by bigger more fancy housing. An abandoned house was taken over by squatters and fixed up. They developed a sort of cultural center for the arts and street dances. Someone has recently bought the property from the city and plans on tearing down and replacing the house. I was there as the police came, documents were signed, and the deal was done: The squatters must go. Some feel that these people need to pay taxes and follow the same system as everyone else. Others feel that this place will never be the same. |
