Vaux Le Vicomte
Nicolas Fouqet was the Financial Secretary of Louis XIV.  In order to build a chateau befitting his high rank, he ordered the construction of this masterpiece in the 1650's.  After throwing a grand celebration in honor of the King he was slandered and, being coveted by ol' Louis, was arrested by his order and jailed for life.
