While growing up as a tomboy in Philadelphia, Penn. Katherine preferred climbing trees and skateboards to playing with dolls. The daughter of a Broadway dancer mother and a violin maker father Katherine Moennig first stepped on to the stage at the age of 10 in a Children's Theatre Workshop production of "Winnie the Pooh". She opted to expand her experience by writing and directing an improvised version of "Pooh" with a friend. The two performed their original production at Philadelphia's Free Library.
Katherine countinued doing school productions until she moved to New York. She entered the American Academy of Dramatic Arts and within two months of graduation she had an apprenticeship at the renowned Williamstown Theatre Festival. She acquired a wealth of experience working behind the scenes. During her second stint at Williamstown she appeared in a production of Shakespeare's "As You Like It" which also starred her cousin Gwyneth Paltrow. Paltrow played the gender bending role of Rosalind not a far stretch from Katherine's own role in her television debut as the elusive Jake Pratt in the WB's Young Americans.
Recently Moennig spent Thanksgiving in Toronto, having won a central role for the Canadian band "Our Lady Peace" music video "Is Anybody Home" before to landing her role in "Young Americans."
