Yashica Electro 35 GS

I really like this camera. The lens is fast and sharp with 6 elements in 4 groups, it's multicoated and nicely corrected. Being automatic it is good for street shooting under changing light conditions. It is neither too light nor too heavy and pretty easy to hold and shoot with. Being automatic you just focus, expose and advance; focus, expose and advance; gee, this is easy; what's that funny 16 rule again?

Did I say it is sharp. I'm impressed with the quality I have gotten from this camera. I'm going to take some test exposures from a tripod just to see how sharp they can really be (compared to my handleld exposures).

This was a used camera and the foam was a rotten mess. I replaced it all and do not have any light leak problems.

The battery is a mercury and is discontinued. I made a homemade adapter and voltage reducer which I will post to my repair pages one of these days. It is just a diode in a wood spacer. I'm still using my prototype, the next one I'll refine a little so it is prettier. I use it with a 28L battery. Put "O" rings around the battery to keep it centered in the battery chamber and to make sure the battery doesn't move around if the camera gets jostled.
