Phonograph are a three piece who have been on the scene for a little more than a year now, with Ben Hassell on guitar and vox, Matt Edge on bass/vox and Jesse Porter on drums, backing vocals and spiffy haircuts. Local lads with style aplenty, are self prescribed "very, very, very British rock," with a good shot of pop shaken, not stirred to boot. Their inital single 'Black & Blue' is Brit popper's wet dream; tight, unyielding and insatiably catchy.
"all our influences pretty much come from the British vein," admits Matt, "that's definitely what we lean towards." It seems to be undeniable that these guys are destined for superstardom. Matt laughs when asked whether they have their own personal stylist as is befitting all up and coming rock gods.
"No personal stylist, it's just a lack of going to the hairdresser. That's our secret." These low maintenance, low-fi, rock-a-luscious lads are already booked into the studio to record again, and are just keen to chill out and "...just to see where that takes us. So really, just to get as much exposure as possible." Brag really doesn't think that'll be a problem.
Catch Phonograph at 4.40pm Thursday July 15 at the Altern8 arena.
