Episode 65: Mission: Match-Up (English)
Celebration Onboard the Typhoon(French) I've heard from Rhiannon that it's also "Party Aboard the Typhoon" and "Celebrate Aboard the Typhoon". Good thing the English names don't have this type of inconsistencies, at not anywhere near as often.
Premiered: December 3, 2005
Summary:
Episode 73: The Cosmo Conspiricy (English)
What's Happening to Shadow? (French)
Premiered:April 1, 2006 (I actually watched this when it premiered)
Summary: The episode begins with Tails and Chris who have just finished fixing the alarm system (From what? Zelkova's attack in the previous episode?) Meanwhile, Shadow has snuck into Cosmo's room (and in the middle of the night, too. Very suspicious...)Very soon after, Tails gets the alarm fixed, and Cosmo wakes up to see Shadow standing at her bedside. But before he gets a chance to take off her dress, Sonic and Chris appear in the doorway and the former fights Shadow. Tails and Cosmo escape, but Shadow knocks out Sonic and pursues them. Knuckles then fights Shadow, allowing Tails and Cosmo to escape once again, but Shadow bursts a pipe, filling the corridor with mist, and goes after Tails and Cosmo. They try to escape in the X-Tornado, but Shadow breaks the launching gear. They escape again through a vertical passageway, and manage to close the door, causing Shadow to slam into it. During this scene, he aquires a cut near his cheek (which is surprisingly left in for the remainder of the episode). Tails get Shadow to enter a section of the Blue Typhoon where he gets launched out of the Sonic Power Cannon. Rouge and Knuckles have a conversation, and Rouge reveals her and Shadow's intentions. So he wasn't trying to assault her after all...well, not that way at least. Just as Tails and Cosmo think they are safe, Shadow appears (using Chaos Control with a fake Emerald). Tails attacks him, but Shadow easily flings him off. Just as it seems all hope is lost,A Metarex ship appears (in a scene that really shows just how huge the Metarex ships are) the glass breaks, Shadow gets sucked through, Tails and Cosmo almost do, but the glass gets sealed quickly. Cosmo then has a flashback of when the Metarex attacked her clan, and that Dark Oak planted (no pun intended) a chip in her mind that would allow her to act as a spy for the Metarex.
Review: This is probably the best episode in the thrid season. In fact, I actually think it's better than the last episode. I loved the way Shadow was portrayed; showing no remorse about killing Cosmo in cold blood and showing no mercy to those who got in his way. The only flaws in this episode are you have to watch it at least a few times to fully understand what happened, and that to achieve the results they got with Shadow, they had to overpower him quite a bit. Even still, the former is somewhat good in a way, and the latter doesn't matter that much. After all, the ends justify the means, right? There's only one thing I see as weird: If someone of the opposite gender (particularly if you're a girl) who you hardly know, took the trouble to break into your bedroom, and you woke to see them at your bedside, what is the first conclusion you would jump to? That's just something I've always thought about. This episode had a great lead-in as well, and serves as an even better lead-in for the next few episodes. The dialogue was also excellent. I was pleasantly surprised this episode wasn't banned; considering it centered around one character trying to kill another, and was quite violent. Considering they banned a Kirby episode where Escargoon had a horrific experience at the dentist, I can easily see them banning this, not to mention, it's not that much of an important episode or anything. 10/10
Episode 74: Eye Spy (Weirdly enough, there is another episode called "Fly Spy"; English) The Lost Planet (this is probably one of the only times where the French episode has a much better name than the English episode; French)
Premiered:April 8, 2006
Summary: Sonic and friends arrive on a new planet that looks like a dead forest. As Amy goes into her ship, she finds Rouge is already in it. They then find an area with a projecting hologram of Earthia. The hologram begins to explain the story of the Metarex. When their home planet (called Greengate) was invaded, the Thorndigrians (the females are called Seedrians) found out their final forms were not powerful enough, and many had already died (this detail is actually left in). A meeting was then held. Earthia (the leader) wanted to leave, and many of the Seedrians agreed. A Thorndigrian named Lucas tells her that they should keep on fighting. Later on, he shows Earthia the planet egg and plans to use its power to strengthen the final forms. Earthia then tells him that he is betraying his own people and everything they hold dear. Lucas then tells her she is by wanting to leave. The Seedrians do leave, and the Thorndigrians stay behind. Earthia then decides that the Thorndigrian's new power will only bring darkness and destruction to their planet. It's never stated what they do, but it appears they defeated the newly-powered Thorndigrians. Shortly after, they go into their final forms, the Metarex. Cosmo finds out from Tails' analysis that to remove the chip would get rid of her sight and hearing. Knuckles and Tails then argue over what should be done. Cream tries to convince Cosmo that they will always be her friend, no matter what, or as Tails states it "The Metarex can use your eyes and ears all they want, but they can never have your heart." As Cosmo prepares to leave on her own, Sonic and friends, along with Rouge, tell her they're going along as well. Chris tries to convince Shadow to help, but he refuses. Just as he is about to head off, Bukkon crash-lands with a warning that Eggman is in trouble.
Review: Though there wasn't a lot of action in this episode, it was still an excellent episode. It also clears up much of the mystery surrounding Cosmo, as well as imposing an ultimatum on her: to gain freedom from the Metarex, she must lose her vision and hearing. You can truly feel for her and Tails in that scene. The flashback scene was amazing, and there were many things in there I was surprised were kept, such as the mentioning that many Thorndigrians had died, and there was even blood coming from Lucas' semi-final-form in one scene where he was crushed under rocks. 10/10
Episode 75: Angel of Mischief (The name of the episode is debated; on the actual DVD it's listed as "Agent of Mischeif", but on Tivo as well as on many official or semi-official sites, it is called "Angel of Mischief; English) The Day of the Plantations (Which as usual, makes little sense, this is not a mistranslation on Rhiannon's part; French)
Premiered: April 15, 2006 (exactly one year after the French version premiered)
Summary: Sonic and friends find out from Bukkon that Eggman, Decoe and Bocoe have been captured. They go to coordinates 0-0-0 to fight the Metarex. Vector finds Shadow and lets him go with the Chaotix. Shadow crash-lands them on the Metarex mothership so he can confront Dark Oak. The Chaotix decide to fight as well. While Sonic, Rouge, Amy, Knuckles, and even Cream fight, Chris goes to rescue Eggman. He does this without any trouble, and then there's a "not anytime, only when it's funny" moment when it's revealed that Eggman could've broken out all along. Using the power of the Planet Eggs and the Chaos Emeralds, the Metarex form into dragonlike monsters, and one of them swallows Sonic!
Review: Sonic X keeps getting better and better, doesn't it? This was a fantastic episode. While this episode wasn't quite as good as the last two, this was still an awesome episode nonetheless. It serves as an awesome lead-in to the next 3 episodes. 10/10
Episode 76: The Light in the Darkness (fantastic name; English) Worries for Sonic (considering the rest of the French names, this one is actually very good; French)
Premiered: April 22, 2006
Summary: The entire cast is still fighting against the Metarex. Amy attempts to rescue Sonic, but she falls into the watery "planet", too! Luckily, Sonic catches her and a bubble forms around them, bringing them to the surface. Meanwhile, back on the Egg Crimson (which, as Eggman put it "conveniently merged with the Blue Typhoon") the others get an idea: Use the Master Emerald to power the Sonic cannon and fires it at the "planet" apparently destroying Black Narcissus and Pale Bay Leaf. In the process, the Master Emerald shatters, and it's revealed that the Metarex have absorbed the Master Emerald's power. It seems Dark Oak has been defeated, as he vanishes into the "planet". Just as it seems all is well, it condenses into what looks like a giant peach pit.
Review: Another fantastic episode. Lots of action with good dialogue sprinkled throughout, just as with the last episode. I give it another 10. 10/10
Episode 77: A Fearless Friend (English) Cosmo's Work (French)
Premiered: April 29, 2006
Summary:When the "planet" reaches its final form, The Metarex unleash a gas from it that begins to drain the life from everyone...except Cosmo. Since she is the same species as the Metarex, she takes the Chaos Emeralds, which have been drained of their power, to Dr. Eggman, who she believes could fix them. Unfortunately, the Metarex attack Cosmo, and she drops the Chaos Emeralds! The Chaos Emeralds go into space. Now it seems as if the battle is lost. Luckily, the others manage to find the Chaos Emeralds. Sonic and Shadow then go into Super Form and attack the Metarex. The "planet" splits in two, and a large black ball of light encases it. The "planet" changes into a round, dark gray ball. It's revealed that it has a very strong gravitational force and will implode, causing a blast that will wipe out the galaxy. Cosmo watches in horror as (inside her mind) her mother reminds her that she is the one destined to save the galaxy. She changes into her final form with the help of the amulet and flies out. She effortlessly floats through the gravity field as Super Sonic and Super Shadow watch in wonder. Inside the field, she transforms into a tree, and says she has immobilized Dark Oak. Cosmo tells Tails to fire Sonic out of the Sonic Power Cannon at the planet. Tails refuses to, and starts crying. Even Eggman tries to convince Tails that it was Cosmo's destiny to stop Dark Oak, but Tails still refuses. Cosmo's spirit appears before Tails and tells him to fire. Tails reluctantly fires and the episode ends with Cosmo's spirit floating out, thanking them all.
Words cannot convey just how amazing this episode was. The animation and special effects had to be some of the best I've ever seen in a cartoon (excluding movies). The voice acting was also very well done. This was such an emotional episode. I can't imagine how guitly Tails felt that he had to kill his best friend. 10/10
Episode 78: So Long, Sonic (English) The Rebirth of Planets (French)
Premiered: May 6, 2006
Summary: There is a brief recap of the ending of last episode before it leads into this episode. The "planet" is destroyed when it's struck with the Sonic Power Cannon, killing Cosmo along with it! The Planet Eggs begin to rush back towards their original planets. Unfortunately, the "planet" will still explode! Super Sonic and Super Shadow try to stop it, but Shadow punches Sonic out of the way and uses Chaos Control to stop time, allowing everyone else to escape. Decoe, Bocoe and Bukkon wonder where Shadow is once he doesn't come back, and Eggman tells them "Shadow made a risky move. And it may have been his last." Back on the Blue Typhoon, Tails is still upset about Cosmo's death. Cosmo's spirit appears before him and tells him that she is okay and thanks Tails for saving the galaxy. After that, Sonic comes up to Tails and gives him what he could find of Cosmo, a tiny seed. Tails begins to cry and falls into Sonic's arms. Once everyone has returned to Sonic's world (everyone but Cosmo and Shadow, who are of course, dead) things return to normal. Chris realizes that he can't get home, so he asks Knuckles where he could build a house. Knuckles tells him that he can just build it anywhere and that it's first-come, first-serve. Then Knuckles picks up on what Chris meant and asks him if he meant to build a house on Angel Island. Chris unconvincingly denies it, and Knuckles sarcastically tells Chris that he can build a house there and that Knuckles doesn't live there. On the Egg Crimson, Rouge asks Eggman about Shadow, suspecting he knows something. Meanwhile, Sonic is relaxing by a tree, hearing Cosmo (in his mind) saying thanking Sonic and the others for their friendship, that her clan was wiped out, and that she couldn't do anything to stop them. She says that because of Sonic and his friends, she realized she didn't have to stand by and watch the Metarex take over, and that she could help fight back. She says she is happy now since she fulfilled her destiny, and that she'd always be with them. Cosmo's spirit appears beside Tails, telling him not to be sad and that whenever he missed her, he could look for her right there beside him. Chris then receives a message from Bukkon telling him that Eggman has a "gift" for him. Eggman then shows Chris an egg-shaped pod that will take him home. But there are a couple catches. One is that Eggman has no idea how old Chris will be when he returns. The other is that Chris may not be able to return to Sonic's world. He then tells Chris that he only has 3 minutes before the quantum alignment that allows travel between the two worlds ends, meaning Chris wouldn't be able to say goodbye to his friends. With this in mind, Chris agrees to head home. As Chris leaves, he imagines how the others would react. He sees Sonic beneath him and waves goodbye. Sonic sees him and waves back. Once Chris is gone, Eggman says that since Chris is out of the way, and Sonic's crew is down by one, he can establish the Eggman Empire. Amy, Knuckles, Tails, Cream and even Rouge decide to help. Sonic then says "Life never stays slow around here for long, thank goodness! Watch out Eggman, I'm coming at'cha full speed!" A small plant then comes into view.
This episode didn't need to be there; many of the details at the beginning could've been placed into the last episode, but this was still an awesone episode nonetheless. There were a ton of great lines, and the humor and emotion were very well-balanced. I couldn't believe this was the last episode when it aired. Sonic's last line is a great summer-up for the show. 10/10
