All the Sonic X episodes, along with a summary, review, premiere date, episode number, and name(s) will be posted. Credit to Rhiannon for finding and translating the French names. All the episode names have been translated into English If you're wondering, "When are you gonna do the rest of the shows?!" then the anwer is...I won't. If you're looking for summaries of Sonic Underground, Sonic the Hedgehog (SatAm) and Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog (Aosth) go somewhere else. However, even if you weren't looking for Sonic X episode guides, I still suggest you read the reviews. The episode summaries are relatively sparse, but this page is more about reviews than summary information. You can find that on almost any Sonic site. Well, I guess we could've called this page "Sonic X reviews", but what the heck, it's too late to change anything now. This page only contains the first season information.

Episode 1:Chaos Control Freaks(English)
Enter the Super Sonic Hedgehog(Japanese)
The Arrival of Sonic(French)
Premiered: August 23, 2003(Note: these are the English version premiere dates)
Summary:Sonic infiltrates Eggman's base to save Cream. However, he sets off Chaos Control and is warped to Earth. People are shocked to see a blue talking hedgehog (well, who wouldn't be?) and the police try to catch him. After many failed attempts, Sonic ran off a ledge and soared over the city. Unfortunately for him, he began to lose altitude and fell into a pool. This woke up Chris Thorndyke, and he ran down to the pool to see what happened. He saved Sonic's life(for you newbies joining us, Sonic can't swim) and introduced himself as Chris Thorndyke. Sonic then introduced himself and the episode ends.
Review by The One and Only World's Greatest Drawer:
Plot: Overall this was a pretty exciting episode. In fact, I'd say this was one of the better episodes in the first season. It sets up the situation and characters without going too slow and boring the watcher, or going too fast and confusing them. It was straightfoward and interesting enough, yet managed to fit in plenty of humorous spots. 10/10
Effort: I was quite pleased at how they not only succeeded in setting up the plot and introducing the characters, but they made it very interesting as well. Sonic's voice acting was somewhat good. At best he sounds better than all the rest of the Sonic voice actors, but at worst, he sounds kind of like Jaleel White, and for those of you who haven't watched the earlier Sonic shows, that's really, really bad. Later on, his voice acting definetly begins to improve. His theme is pretty generic, sort of a fanfare-sounding theme. The good thing about it is it's easily adapted to evoke other emotions. Later episodes show this. Eggman sounds excellent. He has a very unique voice, with a somewhat demanding and condescending sound to it. Unlike Deem Bristow, he doesn't sound like an asthmatic that just ran a marathon without their inhaler. Eggman's theme music is very good, kind of quirky, yet dark and techno-esque. I don't think you actually ever hear his theme in this episode, but I'm saying this for future reference. 10/10
Effort 2:(Yes, I plan to think of another name sooner or later) One scene I was very pleased to see was after Sonic first arrived. It was good to see a scene where Sonic stopped and mused about how he got to this dimension. It also serves to show a completely different side of his personality: a slight amount of insecurity and humanizes him to a point. It makes sense that he would be lonely without any of his friends around, a side of him that rarely shows in other media. Sonic's and Chris' meeting by the poolside also struck a cord. 10/10
Episode 2:Sonic to the Rescue(English)
Enter Area 99(Japanese)
Zone 99(French)
Premiered:September 13, 2003.
Summary The next morning, Chris gets a call from his mother, in which he (Chris) admits to swimming in the "adult pool". Frankly, it doesn't look much different. After the call, Chris asks Sonic where he learned to talk. He replies, saying he can't remember (not a very good answer for not a very good question). Chris leaves for a bit and brings back cat food for Sonic. After Sonic refuses it, Chris, still not picking up on the fact Sonic is no ordinary hedgehog, brings back some crickets, Sonic decides he's had enough and runs off. his grandpa, Chuck (whose name is possibly a reference to Unlce Chuck from SatAm/Sonic Underground), to rescue Cream from a military base (Area 99). He rescues Cream, with a little (unknown at the time) help from Tails. After Sonic, Tails, and Cream all meet up at Chris' mansion, Tails theorizes that Eggman may have been sent to Earth, too.
Review by the One and Only World's Greatest Drawer who will do every review unless otherwise noted:
Plot: This was an okay to fairly good episode. At times it got a little boring, though I'll admit Sonic showed some of his best physical and mental potential in this episode. Interesting or not, it gets done what it needs to (introducing Tails and Cream) without any problems, and is mildy interesting at the same time. 7.5/10
Effort: Chris has a pretty good voice actor, but she's nowhere near as good as Ash Ketchum's. No one can beat Ash's voice actor in the "boys voiced by women" arena. Uncle Chuck sounded very good, not at all like the generic old person. Cream sounds very good; there's very few voice actors who can do a high voice without making it squeaky, nasally, or hard to understand what they're saying. Tails sounds fine, but not great. This episode felt somewhat forced at points, as if it were made just to get Cream and Tails with Sonic again. 6/10.
Effort 2: Nothing special here, really. It was nice to see Sonic with Cream, though. They rarely meet in the games. 5.5/10
Episode 3: Missile Wrist Rampage(English)
Dr. Eggman's Ambition(Japanese)
Robotnik's Counter-Attack (French)
Premiered: September 20, 2003
Summary: Dr. Eggman attacks the city of Station Square where Chris lives. As usual, Sonic comes to save the day, though he is helped by Tails, Chris (and later on) Knuckles and Amy. While Amy goes with Tails, Sonic and the others, Knuckles chooses to go off on his own.
Plot: Another "mindless-battle episode"... . Other than Knuckles and Amy's conversation in the sewer, I can't name a single other interesting part. All-battle episodes never really interested me. 3.5/10
Effort: Amy sounds great; unlike her game version, she sounds spunky, energetic, and cheerful without sounding ditzy. Knuckles sounds pretty good overall. Occasionally he'll sound better than his game voice actor, but sometimes he sounds downright ridiculous. Like Sonic, his voice acting improves a lot. Sound people say he sounds like Yugi. I highly disagree; Yugi has a much deeper, clearer, and louder voice; I've watched the show once (and hated every second of it). 5/10
Effort 2:The episode was as bland emotionally as it was plot-wise. Despite the way he acted towards her, Knuckles clearly DOES care about Amy, in a way more than just heroism. Even through these tiny scenes, I can find an Amy-Knuckles relationship possible. I'm not saying it WILL hapeen or even MIGHT happen (no matter how much I would like it to), I'm just saying it suggests it. I could almost see a love-hate relation between them, similar to the relation Knuckles shares with Rouge later on. 6/10
Episode 4: Chaos Emerald Chaos(English)
Get the Chaos Emerald!(Japanese)
Rescue of the Chaos Emeralds(French)
Premiered:September 27, 2003
Summary: The first Chaos Emerald is discovered at a construction site and causes a machine to go haywire. Cream hears about this on the news and tells Sonic. He goes off and looks for the Chaos Emerald. Dr. Eggman is also looking for the Chaos Emerald(surprise, surprise). Chris however, finds the Emerald first, but Eggman takes it from him and gets in the Eggmobile. Chris then clings onto it to get the Chaos Emerald back. Chris recovers the Chaos Emerald and is saved by his teacher, who is (unbeknownst to anyone else) a government agent.
Plot: While it was okay, this episode was definetly a step above Missile Wrist Rampage. The "Chris Scene" helped. Mr. Stuart has a very good voice actor,by the way. Basically this was just another "action and more action" episode, but I wouldn't go as far as to call it a "mindless battle" episode. 6.5/10
Effort:There wasn't really that much that showed TMS or 4kids were making any extra effort here. This was just pretty much meat-and-bones writing/acting. 5.5/10
Effort 2: See above. 5.5/10
Episode 5: Cracking Knuckles(English)
Clash! Sonic VS Knuckles(Japanese)
Duel to the Summit(French)
Premiered:October 4, 2003
Summary Knuckles (once again) gets tricked into fighting Sonic by Eggman, who also sent out a false signal to trick people into thinking there was a Chaos Emerald in Silver Valley. Sonic didn't want to go, but Chris, Amy and Tails did. Sonic received a challenge from Knuckles and decided to go anyways. Chris and the others got captured by Eggman, while Sonic challenged Knuckles. Knuckles realized he got tricked and helped Sonic fight off Eggman.
Plot: Overall, I have few comlaints regarding the plot. While the set-up was kind of cheap, it doesn't really matter; this episode is about the Sonic-Knuckles fight, not the "Chaos Emerald trick". 7/10
Effort: This is probably the best episode in the 1st half of the season excluding Chaos Control Freaks. Sonic had some excellent dialogue and good voice acting for this episode. In an episode like this, you've got to have good dialogue. Tanaka sounds great, by the way. Ella sounds good too; I was actually shocked when I found out she was played by a man (for comic purposes). I think that worked out very well. Not that I'm saying she's masculine, I just think it was a good idea. It's a clever technique For example, this technique was used in the movie (and I think the original Broadway play, too, but I'm not sure) Hairspray, where Tracy's mom was played by John Travolta. For the most part, you have to look; ther's a fair few examples in media. 8.5/10
Effort 2: There's really not too much in this episode effort-2-wise (man, I really need to change the name). The end scene was about it. 6.5/10
Episode 6: Techno Teacher(English)
Fierce Battle! School Wars(Japanese)
The School Master(French)
Premiered:October 11, 2003
SummaryIn an effort to brainwash the kids to love him, Dr. Eggman creates a teacher robot called Inteligente, (which is pronounced "in-TEL-ah-HEN-tay, similar to how Jose is pronounced "Hoe-zay") He replaces Mr. Stewart as teacher (much to Mr. Stuart's chagrin) and does not go along with orders. The kids all love Inteligente instead of Eggman. When Eggman gets word of this, he threatens to dismantle Inteligente. Inteligente then becomes evil and forces the kids to draw pictures of Eggman as part of "worshipping him". Sonic destroys Inteligente and all ends well.
Plot: Plotwise, this was a fairly bland episode. Not too much happens, and what does happen isn't all that interesting. Still, it was fairly original (unlike half the plots in the first season...). 5/10
Effort: Though the Mr. Stuart and cop scenes were funny, they didn't make up for the rest of the episode. Still, they added some pizazz to the otherwise-forgettable episode. This episode marks Bukkon's first appearance. He has such a great voice actor, he sounds childish, annoying and bratty, yet he sounds absolutely nothing like Charmy, who shares all of those characteristics. 4/10
Effort 2: I guess there were some indicators of Effort 2 too, but most were pretty subdued, such as Inteligente's desire to be a teacher and not a villain and Chris' parents worrying about him. I was kind of impressed by that. In the majority of cartoons (including anime), parents typically aren't too concerned about their kids, unless they're in trouble or there's a reunion moment. It was a nice break to see them showing some concern for Chris. 6.5/10
Episode 7: Party Hardly (English)
Giant Free For All! Chris' House Party(Japanese)
The Party at the House (French) Pretty much all of the names have the same gist.
Premiered: October 18, 2003
Summary: Chris' parents are coming home, so Ella and Mr. Tanaka (the maid and butler) are preparing a party. Cream wants to help, and she almost gets herself caught in the process. She also was looking for flowers. Chris, Tails and Amy have to try and find Cream. Sonic is out looking for flowers for Cream. During the party, Cream gets angry at Chris and blows her cover. Tanaka makes a weak attempt to cover that by saying he was practicing ventriloquism, but then Tails and Amy run through. Ella thinks she's going mad until after the party, Chris explains everything to her about Sonic and his friends.
Plot: This was a decent episode. it was the only episode in all of Sonic X that does not have Dr. Eggman or any of his henchbots in it at all. Period. It wasn't boring, but it wasn't exciting either. Still, it had a nice amount of emotion, action, and humor combined into it. 7.5/10
Effort: The animation in this episode was a little better than usual (that is, sometimes the characters blinked, but hey, that's a start). Chris' mom sounds quite good and so does Chris' dad. 8/10
Effort 2: There were quite a few heartfelt moments throughout the episode. Two that particularly stuck with me were when Chris' mom was torn between her job and her family. That moment was beautifully done, both in acting, dialogue and animation. The scene between Chris and Cream stuck out even more. I don't think Cream's ever shown that much emotion in the entire franchise, nor have many other characters. It alos shows you for the first time just how much she misses her mom. Now that I think of it, has she ever shown anger? Cream was the last character anyone could expect to blow up; If this were Shadow or Knuckles, or even Amy or Blaze, I could see that coming, but never from Cream. Still, it felt perfectly in character. 10/10
Episode 8: Satellite Swindle (English)
Emergency Launch! X Tornado (Japanese)
The War of the Satellites(French) Bleh. All the names are mediocre and rather irrelevant.
Premiered: October 25, 2003
Summary: Dr. Eggman's latest creation is sucking up satellites. Sonic and Tails go up on Tails' biplane(well, technically it belongs to Sonic, but he hardly ever uses it) but they can't get past the stratosphere into space to stop E-90. Tails rebuilds his plane into the X Tornado and (with Sonic and Chris) goes into space and defeats Dr. Eggman.
Summary: This was another one of those "meh" episodes. There wasn't really anything exciting or humorous that happened. Also, this episode creates some plotholes.
1. Tails says that he made the X Tornado a 3-seater, yet in later episodes it can hold 4 and sometimes 5 people/animals. He even directly states in "Shadow World" (episode 36) that it (the X Tornado) only seats 4.
2.Only in this episode can the X Tornado go into space; in the SA2 based episodes, it can't. 4.5/10
Effort: Not much going here, either. Still, the above-earth shots and space scenes were beautifully drawn. I'd say it's "meh" here too. 5.5/10
Effort 2: There's not too much here, either. 5.5/10
Episode 9: The Last Resort(English) Ironically, there was an AOSTH episode of the same name, I think it's a coincidence, though.
Amy on the Beach (Japanese)
Shellfish and Crustaceans(French) What the heck?
Premiered: November 1, 2003
SummaryChris has to attend a party at a beach resort. Sonic and his friends (when I say "Sonic and friends, I mean Chris, Tails, Cream and Amy unless otherwise noted) are invited to stay at Chris' villa as sort of a vacation, but Sonic decides not to go since he can't swim. Dr. Eggman attacks and wants to turn the resort into an Eggman-based theme park. Sonic arrives to fight Eggman's robot. Amy almost drowns, but Sonic saves her life, possibly thanks to a good-luck charm Amy gave him.
Plot: This was a so-so episode. The plot was somewhat lame, but I've seen worse. 6/10
Effort: Nothing special writing-wise for the most part. I think the ending was the best-written part of the episode. 7/10
Effort 2: I'll admit it was nice to see a quiet, peaceful side of Amy. Not that I don't like her, she's my 4th favorite character; Rouge, Shadow, and Wave are my 1st second and third. Charmy is my 5th. Okay, now I'm beginning to ramble. The final scene where Sonic saved Amy saved the episode was well-done; the scene after was even better. 8.5/10
Episode 10: Unfair Ball(English)
Fierce Fight! Sonic Baseball Team (Japanese)
The Beautiful Team (French)
Premiered:November 8, 2003
Summary: Tails finds a chaos emerald on the Diamond Stadium (apparently the Station Square baseball team) and befriends the groundskeeper. Eggman also finds out about the Chaos Emerald and challenges Tails and the rest of Sonic's friends to a baseball game. After a while, a lot of people gather to watch. Even though Sonic and friends technically win, Dr. Eggman steals both emeralds.
Summary: Despite the lame plot idea, this was actually a pretty good episode. I haven't seen a plot concept like this since AOSTH, and I mean that in a good way in this case. It's good to have a feel-good episode after all the battles before (and after) this. 8/10
Effort: Why do I get the feeling this was a filler episode? It didn't really get anything accomplished, and it really sticks out from the rest of the episodes near it (in this case, that's a good thing). There were a lot of little jokes peppered here and there, as well as good dialogue. 7/10
Effort 2: There was no real emotional core in this episode, it was mostly humor. Still, it didn't really need an emotional core, so it's not too bad. 5.5/10
Episode 11: Fly Spy (English)
The Beautiful, Mysterious Thief Rouge (Japanese)
The Flight of the Bat (French)
Premiered: November 15, 2003
Summary:Rouge breaks into a museum and steals the World's Largest Diamond. Later on, she stumbles upon a trap set for Sonic and his friends and gets caught instead. She is sent to the President's office, where the president makes a deal with her that if she works for them, she won't get arrested for stealing the diamond. Rouge meets up with Topaz, another operative, and they infiltrate Eggman's base. Rouge and Topaz both help each other out and escape together.
Plot: This isn't really one of the episodes that stands out in people's minds, and it's no exception with me. This episode certainly wasn't boring, and it had some good dialogue, but it just wasn't memorable. It's actually a little ironic, considering Rouge is my favorite character, and she had the main role in this episode. Still, I'm glad to see Rouge get a big role (one of the bigger roles she gets in Sonic X). 7/10
Effort: There are other things I could say, but let's just focus on Rouge here. One one note, THANK GOODNESS they didn't dub out her cleavage or anything like that; 4kids don't usually dub out cleavage, but they will on occasion. The comics edit it out on a regular basis (yet they occasionally leave it in). I don't know why, but cleavage-edits are a HUGE pet peeve of mine.I don't watch Naruto, but I've heard the company that dubs it edits out the cleavage, and the show's TV-PG, too! How is that for stupid?! Now back on topic: Rouge has easily one of the best voice actors in the show; it's just too bad she sounds horrible in the games. Topaz sounds great, too. 8/10
Effort 2: Once again, there's not really an emotional core here, either. Still, they could've made some attempt to identify with either. 4.5/10
Episode 12: Beating Eggman (English)
The Attack on Eggman's Base (Before) (Japanese)
Chess With Robotnik Part 1 (French) For some weird reason they used Robotnik instead of the usual Eggman; I thought Sega retconned that whole plot point in Sonic Adventure.
Premiered: November 22, 2003
Summary:The President plans to launch an attack on Dr Eggman's base with the help of Sonic and friends. Since Sonic and the others don't know this, Tails, Chris, Amy and Francis (a friend of Chris') head out on the X Tornado to find a Chaos Emerald. However, Eggman finds them and uses his newest robot, Funfun on them. Meanwhile, Knuckles sneaks into the missile compartment of a military plane, and Rouge and the other agents infiltrate Eggman's base.
Plot:This was a so-so episode. Considering this episode was the "set-up" episode, it was done very well, in the sense that it set up the next episode's plot but it was also interesting to watch on its own. There was only one thing that bugged me. What kind of name is Funfun? Seriously! I'm guessing it's because Fanfan was already used in Kirby, which was also dubbed by 4kids. If you ask me, it seems much more fitting for a robot that uses a fan for a weapon than a baby elephant. 7/10
Effort: Nothing special in this department. Special-effects wise, the wind scene was excellently done, as well as the backgrounds, but that's about it. 5/10
Effort 2: See above. 3/10
Episode 13: Beating Eggman Part 2 (English)
The Attack on Eggman's Base (After) (Japanese)
Chess With Robotnik Part 2 (French) Funny, all of the names have "Part 1/2" in some form in them.
Premiered: November 29,2003
Summary: Sonic comes to Tails and the other's aid and defeats Funfun, but Eggman escapes with the Chaos Emerald. Sonic and Tails follow Eggman to his base and enter. Sonic then has to face off against Guerra-Hard(that doesn't sound like a usual Eggman robot name; it must be a reference to something), which now contains two Chaos Emeralds. The Secret Service team meets up with Knuckles, and together they take down Eggman's base. Sonic manages to beat Guerra-Hard and escape before the base blows up.
Plot: From the time of the apostles, thirteen has always been known to denote (and bring about) terror, bad luck, and disaster. Friday the 13th always brings bad luck, many people are adverse to it, heck there's even a fear of it! (called triskaidekaphobia). Suffice to say this wasn't a very good episode. It wasn't nearly as good as the last episode's cliffhangers hinted at. It definetly had its moments, such as Knuckles' and Rouge's scenes, but the outcome was quite predictable. 6/10
Effort: This was pretty much just another action episode. Still, it shows some effort for reasons revealed below. 6/10
Effort 2: The only noteworthy thing here were the scenes between Knuckles and Rouge. It's nice to see some quasi-romantic tension between them. This time it was much less subtle than in Missle Wrist Rampage, but it worked well. 6.5/10
Episode 14:That's What Friends are For (English)
Chase After the Hero Sonic!(Japanese)
The Hunt for the Hero (French)
PremieredDecember 6, 2003
Summary: Sonic becomes friends with Helen, a girl in a wheelchair who looks somewhat like Maria, who always wanted to go out to an island on a lake, but her parents were too busy to take her. Meanwhile, the president is planning an important party and invites Sonic and friends. Sonic declines the invitation (though the others accept) but Jerome Wise (the president's aide) won't take no for an answer. He even sends out the military to hunt Sonic down, but Sonic doesn't let them ruin his and Helen's experience on the island.
Plot: This wasn't a great episode, but it wasn't a dull episode either. It had a good mix of action and emotion, as well as some good lines thrown in here and there. 6/10
Effort: I'll admit the island scenes were downright gorgeous with all those glowing flowers. Great special effects there. 8.5/10
Effort 2:It had some really great moments between Helen and Sonic (let's just hope those don't spawn some Sonic-Helen couplings) as well as some exciting chase scenes. Helen had a great voice actor, too. By the way, she really reminds me of Maria. I don't mean that in the knock-off sense, either. It's much more than just being a blond-haired, blue-eyed girl who's voiced by Bella Hudson (at least I THINK she is; I still haven't found out who plays her). I just can't put my finger on it. Either way, the strength of her character adds so much to this otherwise-bland episode. 10/10
