"These are Bosozoku. They are a Japanese motorcycle gang. They mod their bikes to make very gaudy and very, very, VERY loud. You would not believe how loud they can be. If they can't afford the specialized mufflers that make their engines sound louder than a shotgun they just cut them off and go without. They rev their engines extremely fast to make the sounds you see above. To top it all off, they ride down the tight city streets of Japan in packs of 20-100+ going less than 20 mph, swerving all over the road in both lanes, blocking traffic, ignoring every street law and waking up everyone within a 3km radius. They tend to do this at the wee hours of the night too. Most Japanese find them to be a nuisance and a threat and don't do anything to piss them off. Though most of them carry baseball bats and various other weapons, they rarely start fights with anyone, but it does happen and the results are not pretty. Death often occurs. They totally ignore the police and in most cases the cops are completely helpless in dealing with them. Anyway, they make a damn lot of noise. Onidzuka used to be in a Bosozoku gang before becoming a teacher. This is part of his old gang coming to his school to help him out with some things." - from Japanese Manga Lesson #4, in which you can learn the following japanese sounds for moto's: "guon" "von von" "gaogaogogogogo" "gagyuugagyuugogagaga" "bagangogagoga" "fuon fuon fuon" "gogabagogaba" "goongogogogo".
i find myself oddly agreeing with the "gagyuu" bit for some reason.. ;)
"They talked a little about the bozozoku (literally crazy tribe) motorcycle gangs and yakuza (Japanese Mafia), and how while they are dangerous, they're not particularly vicious, so if you act polite, they'll probably leave you alone. The black girl also told about the mofazoku which is college students who can't afford motorcylces so use mopeds :-D (mofa = german for moped). Her advice was to avoid the bozozoku but feel free to openly mock the mofazoku ^^ "
A darker take on Bozozoku and their links to Yakuza.
