Selphie lands the ship outside of Edea's house. Squall, Zell, and Quistis go into the orphanage. Angelo, Rinoa's dog, is there. He leads Squall and Co. to a flower field. Quistis takes Zell and goes to get Rinoa. Squall has a brief one-way conversation with Angelo. He wonders what to talk about when Rinoa gets there. Rinoa shows up, and Angelo leaves. She then begins to talk to Squall about her being a sorceress. She is afraid that she will wind up fighting the party like Edea did. She tells Squall that she will understand if he has to kill her...if that happens...
Squall says "That's enough. The sorceress I'm after is not you, Rinoa." Rinoa asks him what he is planning to do about Ultimecia. Squall says that he will come up with something, and asks Rinoa to just stay close to him.
Rinoa then tells him about a dream she had. They made a promise. They promised to watch shooting stars together. She got dressed up, put on his ring, but she couldn't remember where to meet him. She ran all over the world, through Timber, Balamb. Finally, she was so frustrated that she screamed out "Squall! Where are you?!"
Squall tells her that it was just a dream...it doesn't mean anything. But to allay her fears, he says..."I'll be here." and indicates the flower field with a sweep of his arm.
Zell enters the scene. They just recieved a transmission from Esthar's Presidental Palace. The President has a plan to get rid of Ultimecia, and he wants to hire SeeD to execute it. Squall thinks it might be a trap to get Rinoa back into Esthar. Zell says that the guy they talked to is named Kiros...could it be...THAT Kiros? Squall, Zell, and Rinoa start to head back to the Ragnarok. Edea catches them before they leave. She tells them that she is no longer a sorceress, and that she has learned that all things have an end, no matter how painful. She tells them to fight on.
Squall and Co. land at Esthar Airstation. Esthar looks like a battle zone because of the Galbadians and the Lunar Cry. Ellone has been taken to the Lunatic Pandora. Squall makes his way to the Presidental Palace. There, he and his team meet the President of Esthar...LAGUNA LOIRE???
Laguna explains that he headed the operation that sealed Adel away, and then he somehow got elected to be the President. Dr. Odine arrives and explains about the mission. The reason that Ultimecia can possess the present sorceress is the result of a machine Dr. Odine invented that mimicks Ellone's mysterious power. There is a limit, however. Ultimecia can go no further than the present. The way to defeat Ultimecia: Defeat Adel. Rinoa must recieve Adel's powers of her own will. Then, Ultimecia will possess Rinoa. Ellone will send Rinoa and Ultimecia into a past sorceress; either Edea or Adel. Ultimecia can then achieve time compression. Ellone will then bring Rinoa back. Time compression will begin. The teams will then travel to the future, and defeat Ultimecia in her realm. After that...anyone's guess is good as to what will happen.
The group boards the Ragnarok. Laguna, Kiros, and Ward come along. They ram into the Lunatic Pandora. Rajin and Fujin are waiting for them. After defeating the duo, Squall and Co. travel further into the Lunatic Pandora. They encounter the Moblie Type 8, a machine. It is easily destroyed. Following Rajin and Fujin, the party finds Seifer. Seifer has retired from being a knight. He orders Rajin and Fujin to take Squall and his friends out. Fujin says "NO." She is tired of fighting, and will no longer follow Seifer. She believes that he is being manipulated. The Disciplinary Committee parts ways, and Seifer attacks the party himself. He is defeated. But it is not over. Seifer grabs Rinoa and takes her to Adel. The party follows him, and reaches them just as Seifer shoves Rinoa to Adel. Adel quickly junctions her, and attacks the party.
After a long, drawn-out battle to kill Adel and keep Rinoa alive, Adel is defeated. Rinoa takes Adel's powers, and is immeadiately possessed by Ultimecia. Laguna and Ellone run in. Ellone sends Rinoa and Ultimecia back into a young Adel. Then, she brings Rinoa back. Then, time compression begins!
The world seems to melt, and the group is dropped in a mass of time. Upon reaching "stable" ground the party must fight a LONG(that is SUCH an understatement)string of battles against weak sorceress. Finally, they reach Edea's house. Upon exiting it, they discover that they have been fighting across generations. "Ultimecia's reign. We must end it now."
Upon entering Ultimecia's castle, the party discovers that their abilities have been sealed. They must fight and defeat eight monsters in order to get their abilties back. The first is the Sphinxara in the Front Foyer. After defeating it, the party goes on to the next creature, located in the wine cellar. It is the Tri-Point. After killing it, the next target is Krysta, on the other side of the chandelier. Once Krysta has bitten the big one, Squall and Co. hunt down Trauma in the art gallery. Trauma buys the farm. Then, it is on to add the Red Giant to The List. Red Giant soon joins his fellows in the underworld. Only three left. Gargantua is hiding out in the armory. After crushing his ego, the party goes to kick some Catoblepas tail. Catoblepas is skulking around the Treasure Vault. Now, on to Tiamat! Tiamat is lurking around the destroyed balcony of the clock tower. Tiamat goes all the ways of the earth. Now, it is time for the Final Showdown Against Ultimecia!
Ultimecia awaits Squall's arrival just beyond the clock tower. Squall and Crew climb down to her room. All six of the party are there. Ultimecia is not pleased. Her dreams of time compression are gone. She randomly picks three party members, and the Battle begins.
Ultimecia has five forms: Ultimecia, the sorceress; Greiver, the semi-GF(also the name of Squall's ring!); Ultime-Greiver(Ultimecia junctions herself to Greiver); Ultime-Greiver part 2(the second half of Ultime-Greiver); and her Final Form:
ULTIMECIA(it bears a striking resemblance to Jenova from FFVII). After her final defeat, Ultimecia losses control of time. The six fall through time, holding on to the image of Edea's house to guide them back. Quistis, Irvine, Selphie, and Zell make it with no problems. Rinoa stops, looking for Squall, but she gets to the flower field where they promised. Squall winds up falling back to his childhood, to the day he ran off looking for Sis (Ellone). Edea sees Squall, all grown up, and asks him if he has seen a little boy run past. Squall assures her that the boy will return. Then, Ultimecia appears. She has to pass her powers on to someone before she dies. Edea takes them. Then, she sends Squall back on his journey to his own time. Squall is trapped in time compression and eventually lands on a floating desert isle. He walks across it, but can go no further. Then, his fears surround him. He sees himself losing Rinoa again and again. She disappears in front of his very eyes. Then, chaos spins around, and he sees the faces of his friends and enemies coming at him, faster and faster. Then, he sees Rinoa, floating in space. Her mask breaks open...His mind cannot handle it. He hits the ground on his knees, a single tear pours out of his blue eyes.
Rinoa, not finding Squall at the field, has ventured into time to get him and bring him home. She sees him, lying on the ground, as though he were dead. She kneels next to him, takes him in her arms. She hugs him close to her, and the sky opens up. A mystical wind turns the desert into the flower field. Then, Rinoa looks at Squall...her eyes widen in disbelief...
Laguna is walking on a grassy hill. He is heading toward a stone marker. Ellone, Ward, and Kiros are nearby. He waves to them, then continues toward the marker. On it is: Raine Loire. Laguna closes his eyes, remembering...
They were at the same place. It was night, and the moon hung in the sky with a brightness to make the sun envious. The stars twinkled and danced in the velvet blue that was the night time sky. Laguna was preparing to leave. Raine walked up to him. He turned to her and then waved a casual wave. He started walk off. Raine followed him, reaching out for him. He turned quickly, took hold of her hand and slipped a ring on to her left ring finger. She smiled, a radiant smile that lit up the night more than the full moon.
Back at the Garden... A reception is being held. Selphie is filming the whole thing. Irvine is next to Quistis, dancing like a fool. Quistis smiles at the camera, then Irvine puts his arm around her. She shoves him away and walks over to Cid. The two talk, and Selphie follows them with the camera. Edea approaches, and Irvine and Quistis bow to her. Then, Irvine takes the camera from Selphie, and holds it sideways until she motions for him to right it. He gets a shot of Selphie(who is wearing his hat!) and Quistis, then pans over and waves to some other girls. Selphie jumps in front of the camera, angrily saying something that translates to "What the fuck do you think you're doing?" Then she and Quistis walk over to Zell. Zell is sitting at a table, stuffing his face with hot-dogs. He begins to choke, and reaches for his glass(GOT MILK?). Quistis and Selphie try to help him, but he stands up and throws a hot-dog at the camera. Irvine shakes it off, and follows Selphie to the edge of the balcony. Rinoa is standing there, pointing up to the night sky.
Squall is with her, the two are watching shooting stars. She points up, so reminescent of the night they met, and Squall walks over to her. He takes her in his arms, and, as the camera pans away, the two kiss(FINALLY). The scene ends with a dream shot of the Garden, flying toward a huge full moon.
