JOBS I HAVE HAD
From June 2000 - June 2001 I worked as an Accounts Payable Clerk at CH Television, (formerly known as ONtv) in Hamilton, Ontario. As such, my duties included: invoice coding and input into Great Plains, the accounting software used; cheque runs twice a month; month end; ordering and tracking of all office supplies for the station, including toner and paper; switchboard relief. With the buyout of the station last year by Canwest Global, there has been centralization of duties to their Toronto offices, and as a result, my position became redundant as of June 1, 2001. I was laid off for a period of one month, and then was re-hired, reprising my former role as receptionist at CH Television, and am still there in that capacity.
Previous to my position in accounting, I was a part-time receptionist/switchboard operator at ONtv for 2 years, from April 1998 to June 2000. My duties there included answering and forwarding calls, opening, sorting and distributing mail, greeting guests and clients as they arrived, and helping to implement a new voice-mail system in 1999. I was given many extra duties by the manager of the department which led him to see my potential and recommend me for a promotion to accounting last year.
Another job I have had in the last few years was in retail. I worked for a store called M & M Meat Shops. There I was a product consultant and salesperson. They sell wonderful frozen products, including steak, chops, chicken breasts, sausage, frozen ready to cook and eat meals, vegetables. I loved working there, partly because I got an employee discount off products that I would have been buying anyway! Some of their products are better than buying straight from the butcher. It was a fun job, but boy did I work hard. In and out of the freezer all day tires you and is so hard on the feet!
