THIS IS AN EXCERPT. The whole poem is part of my new novel and will therefore remain a semi-mystery until it is finished.
JASON,

Wade me in the water
Wash me clean and pure
Wind me up in circles
Whip me as my cure

Take me out to Memphis
Teach me loud and clear
Tell me rhymes and riddles
Taunt me for a tear

...

Buy me different seasons
Bring me dusk and dawn
Burn me into ashes
Beat me and my pawn

...

Count me down to zero
Carve me out of ice
Cause me to be frightened
Curse me in disguise

Zoom me in your picture
Zap me from it soon
Zone me for intrusion
Zip me to the moon

Offer me a contract
Open me with trust
Oil me up with caution
Own me if you must

Drive me through your country
Drown me in your sea
Drain my blood of color
Dare me to fly free
