Reflecting on the subject... Not sure whose it is but I could take this one home... And had I known the reflection shot would be so cool, I'd have taken more.

I had expected to shoot Monday's parade of sail from the park at the end of town, a popular vantage point. However, by chance on Sunday evening, I discovered a little replica schooner called Liana's Ransom was selling tickets. Eastern Passage Privateers had only been in business for a few days, & were gearing up for a tourist business. If you can't be departing on something with square sails, this was the next best thing. Monday morning's fog was not encouraging, but as it had other mornings, the fog was clearing by late morning, & eventually we had sunshine. With colourful costumes, music, lots of yummy snacks, and several teeny cannons which were frequently used against the other ships, they provided a fun vantage point in the middle of the parade of sail. We went several times around the harbour, & the captain entertained by swinging off the side on a line a few times. Various passengers got to fire the cannons. They have been working very hard to get the boat ready & set up their business, & if their future trips are as much fun as this one, I'm sure they will do well. Recommended if you go to Halifax!

After the parade of sail the harbour had a very deserted, abandoned look. A couple of giant tugs came in to fill the spot Bounty had left. The crowd faded away. At some point during the parade, all of the ships had melted away into the outer harbour, there to scatter to other events at smaller ports, or off into the Atlantic. Along the waterfront, time had shifted back to present day again. I missed the Rose being there, and felt rather a relic -- a would-be sailor without a ship -- although I did speak to several people who remembered her. I hope that at the end of 2009's parade of sail, rather than taking joke photos of me looking morose on an empty pier (last of Bailey's privateers?), I will be looking astern at the harbour with a set of square sails filling above me.
Gorch Fock and downtown Halifax. Which part of this anachronism do you prefer?
Waterfront & parade of sail A bit sparser than 2000's event. Organizers are already planning another gathering for 2009, which they say will have a lot more ships.
