Evans, Amodeo and Carter in their 1992 text book entitled, Introduction to L:ibray Public Services, include, within their overview of the various types of serial publications that one might find in a library, the following comment. "Another type of publication is the magazine found in the pocket of airline seats. This type of publication contains interesting short articles about people, places, and things. ... Who knows when some sociologist may wish to study the reading habits of airline passengers." I have taken up that challenge and am hoping to start in the year 2000 a Masters Degree to create a bibliography and history of these publications plus incorporating with the work a sociological research such as the one that Evans et al have suggested. I am currently seeking to find a university that offers a Masters Degree in Bibliography, who would be willing to accept this subject as a valid Masters by thesis only topic; at the same time I am hoping to also find an airline or two who would be willing to sponsor me. |
