The famous melodies from Gilbert & Sullivan's, The Pirates of Penzance are "Oh, better far to live and die", sung by the Pirate King, "Poor Wandering One", sung by Mabel and her sisters, "Hail Poetry", sung by the ensemble, and "I am the very model of a modern Major-General", sung by Major-General Stanley. (But what do all those strange words in his song mean?) The Sergeant of Police sings "When the foeman bares his steel" and "When a felon's not engaged in his employment", accompanied by his band of policemen, while the pirates reply "With catlike tread, upon our prey we steal."
