The Melon Lady

The melon lady I first met
A long time ago, but I'll never forget,
Quick of tongue and full of grace,
She was a light in a darkening place.
Old and wise, yet young and free,
Always a mystery to me,
Sometimes open, honest and true,
Sometimes with secrets kept from view.
I'd think I knew her fairly well,
Then she'd be different, I could never tell,
But I was stubborn, never thrown,
Eventually her secrets known.
Not humbled by the truth revealed
She continued with her secret spiel,
Hiding her where none could see,
None that is except for me.
For the honesty she bore
Eventually, I gave her more
Than I had ever given out,
Open truth, no lies, no doubt.
And with the secrets that we shared
I felt our souls perfectly paired,
My partner destined from above,
The Melon Lady, my true love.
