Pain 2

I had myself protected,
I built up a wall,
An emotional barrier,
Impenetrable to all

Then I met somebody,
I opened up the door,
Let her in, fell in love,
Felt happy, nothing more.

She spoke about her fear,
Of letting someone close,
The person who can bring you joy
Is the one who can hurt you most

Then her fear grew stronger,
That I would bring her pain,
She hurt me before I could
Have hurt her just the same.

I understand her reason,
And can't help but agree
I'm glad I didn't hurt her,
That she instead hurt me

I know that I still love her,
I think I always will,
I don't know how she feels for me,
Thinking makes me ill

My emotional barrier,
Smashed from the inside,
Built up again now, stronger,
No doorway there this time.

I let one person inside,
I'll never make that mistake again.
