As Night Falls
As night falls
I sit and listen
I hear stars shine
And dewdrops glisten
And mother moon
Wakes from her slumber
Across her sky
She gently trundles
Around, her children
Wake for the night
Mice steal their grain
Bats play and fight
Then far off
In the distant hills
A wolf cries out
The fear builds
The echoes cry
A mournful sound
Thats strikes a chord
True terror found
The moon's fair children
Stop mid flight
And vanish quickly
Out of sight
The moon herself
Draws tight her coat
The whispy clouds
To guard her throat
In deathly silence
That descends
The silent riders
Run their errands
The sons of darkness
Take their turn
To dance and play
To scald and burn
With nymphs and pixies
Shadows filled
Hobgoblins learing,
Dwarf craftsmen build
The faeries dance
Ghost pipers play
An endless throng
'Till break of day
Then the music dies
Echoes fade away
The moon drops her cloak
For another day
The last thing I saw
Sitting there that night
A shooting star
From dawn in flight
