Policeman Was 29th to Be Slain in Line of Duty

Patrolman Robert Fossum was the 29th Minneapolis policeman to be killed in line of duty.
His name will be added to a brass plaque at headquarters.
The 31 year-old officer was the.first in nearly 20 years to die of shooting injuries.
Patrolman James H. Trepanier, 42, died Sept. 19, 1938, of wounds suffered in a gun battle with bandits in north Minneapolis 10 years earlier.
A bullet pierced most of Trepanier's vital organs, paralyzing him from the waist down.
The last policeman fatally shot, previous to that, while on duty was John W. Thomas, 32. He died Aug. 5, 1933, 11 days after he was wounded by a gunman.
