Mr.
Hi, I'm Phil, a Postmaster in South Wales. When I'm not working I enjoy walking, fishing and scuba diving.
Entry for August 6, 2007
Sunday the 5th turned out to be quite a good day.  Sandra was away on a garden visit to Kew.  I woke around 05-00 and took the dog out.  It was a nice morning, not much wind and reasonably warm.  Paul the Gas was picking me up at -6-45, so following a quick shower and shave I boiled two eggs, made some coffee, and assembled my dive gear.  It's so much more difficult going in someone else's car, but the economics make sense and Paul's Shogun has ample room for three people and the dive gear.   He arrived on time and we were soon heading down the motorway.  The forecast was fair with rain expected around mid day.  Other areas of the country were expected to be hot, but temperatures locally weren't expected to rise above 18c.  At WWD, there were four members waiting and others arrived before the 09-30 deadline.  A decision to launch from Broadhaven was made mainly because Billy would do the honours with his tractor.  There were 12 of us, so we used two boats, and following a very smooth launch were soon on our way to Skomer.  I buddied with big Paul and we dropped into 20 metres of water on the North face.  Visibility was ok; about 3/4 metres.  We fought against a current, spying wrasse, crabs, and colourful seaweed.  Our dive lasted 45 minutes and we surfaced almost at the same spot were we dropped in.  My navigation is getting better.  Our second dive was on the hen and chicks.  In this shallow water, we followed a pot line out into the bay before turning around and coming back.  We finished our dive by the rocks, and in amongst the many shells that are a feature of this site.  Recovery went well thanks once again to Billy and we were soon at WWD putting the boats away.  The forecast had been accurate with heavy rain falling all afternoon.  Thankfully this eased to allow us to bed the boats down, but the downpour stared again as we made our way home.  We stopped off at the Barn pub and I enjoyed three pints of Empire.  Arriving home about 9-00, Sandra had walked Suki.  I put my kit to soak and had a shower.  It had been a good day.  The diving hadn't been particularly exciting but it's always good to get on the water.
