Mr.
Hi, I'm Phil, a Postmaster in South Wales. When I'm not working I enjoy walking, fishing and scuba diving.
Entry for July 22, 2007
Yesterday was so wet.  I managed a fairly long walk in the morning, around Miskin.  Saw lots of rabbits, and that strange hawk; must try to identify it from a book.  On the way back there was a fox (or it could have been a dog though I'm pretty sure it was a fox) in the field behind the barn pub.  Got back in time to see Sandra off on her trip to Tattham Gardens.  According to the weather forecast the coach she's travelling on may have to re-route because of floods.  The news tells that the M50 and parts of the M5 are closed due to flood water.  Got to the PO and opened up.  Did some currency and quite a lot of banking business; in fact it was quite busy.  Locked up at 12-30 and decided because of the weather, (it was absolutely lashing down) that I would enjoy a couple of pints in Morgans.  Spoke to the owner Chris; he seems to be doing OK.  Got home around 1-30.  It's strange coming home to an empty house but I made myself some lunch and settled down to watch television; you can't do much else in the rain.  Around 5-15 the dog was getting restless.  It was drizzling outside so I put a fleece and woolly hat on (yes; a woolly hat in July!!) and we had a walk around the bottom of Penygawsi, across the field by the cemetery and came back home.  Tea was cheese on toast and a chicken leg (shared with the dog).  I watched telly again.  It was entertaining enough until around 10-00 when I decided to go to bed and have a read.  It was so quiet without Sandra but I managed to get to sleep and woke up at 05-00.  No rain; that's a bonus.  We took the same route as yesterday; across to Miskin, along the cricket field and back home.  The news was full of flood stories.  People having to leave their homes, caravans being washed away, cars being abandoned.  Later reports talked about factories and workplaces being closed.  The after affects of this flooding will be damaging to the country and there's no quick fix.  Thankfully we live on a hill.  Where will all the new furniture, kitchen equipment, motor vehicles, etc etc etc come from?  Even if the monies around there's surely not enough stock on the ground to satisfy demand.  And where are all these displaced people live in the meantime.  Their homes are wrecked.  The next few weeks will be dominated with flood stories.  I was going fishing today, but it's only just stopped raining.  I'll need to do something, Sandra's not due back until late this evening.  Hope the roads clear up enough to allow her too travel safely.  Hopefully the rain will cease in time for a decent day's diving tomorrow.
