Entry for June 10, 2007

A perfect day.  Picked Peter up at 06-45 and we headed west.  By 08-30 we were pulling inot WWD car park.  By 09-15 our team for today had asembled; there were ten of us, so two boats became a necessity and we decide on Gelliswick at a launch site.  Lyn, dive marshall for the day, took the Paj and a boat and topped up with petrol, Geff towed the other boat.  We were on the water by 11-00 and racing across a calm sea into the morning mist.  The Smalls lighthuse took a time to locate, probably due to poor surface viz and travelling from a different direction; but on route, we saw lots of puffins, gannets, shearwaters, and pods of dolphins.  When we arrrived at the  Smalls, Lyn split us into buddy pairs and we were soon in the water.  My buddy John Crabhook Evans soon dissapeared and I enjoyed a 40 minute dive all on my own.  I saw some giant crab, and monster lobster as well as wrasse and pollack.  The current picked up and I surfaced in a totally different place than where I thought I would.  The boat crew had spotte me and I was soon on board.  The highlight of the day, apart from the seals, dolphins, and the fantastic visability that we have come to expect from the Smalls, was Richard Griff, who had everyone on board in stitches when he rolled off the boat minus his fins!!

Later in the day we had a second dive off Skolkom Island.  Tis time I dived with Jeff and we enjoyed a pleasant 40 minutes in and out of the gullies.  Again, there was plenty of life to witness, and the visibility was good.
