Mr.
Hi, I'm Phil, a Postmaster in South Wales. When I'm not working I enjoy walking, fishing and scuba diving.
Entry for November 8, 2007

Have I got news for you!  After 36+ hours without food and after suffering two doses of Fleet which emptied and cleansed my bowels at a rate of knots, I attended the Royal Glamorgan Hospital for an Endoscopy.  I couldn't walk the dog; she didn't understand but went along happily with Sandra whilst I stayed in bed - not my style -  but when you're passing water every time you move - well I don't have to go into detail do I?  Anyway there I was lying in bed: sweaty, uncomfy and wanting to be just about anywhere else.  The phone rang.  Who wants me at 08-00?  If they can't run the Post Office it's too bad cause I'm due else where.  The lady on the other end of the line was from the hospital.  Could I attend earlier?  Bloody Hell, there is a God.  Yes Love!!!  Can I come in now?  The short story is that I was needed at 10-00 instead of 10-40.   I showered, dressed and watched the clock go round.  At 09-20 we set off - Sandra was in charge of logistics so that meant we were to be in situ in good time.  I checked into 207 - the endoscopy unit - at 09-45.   Who's a good boy then!!!  The staff were brilliant.  A nurse took me to a room and gave me a gown and paper panties.  She left me to get changed.  I stripped for action and donned the panties, gown and a dressing robe that I had brought with me.  The nurse returned.  She talked me through the procedure then took me to the treatment room.  Here, two other nurses wee waiting.  Between the them they re- assured me of the procedure; I filled in a consent form and lay down on a bed as instructed.  The position was embarrassing but in fairness, the nurse were real angels.  They talked to me all the way through.

The procedure was uncomfy - not painful, just bloody uncomfy but the nurses were brilliant.  Afterwards, I changed back into my street clothing and was directed to a room where sandwiches and tea were provided.

The whole incident was conducted with dignity; I have nothing but praise for those nurses.  Later on in the day I went back to work.  There was a little bit of discomfort; mainly wind which passed un-noticed though I was a little bit 'loose' when I needed to 'go'.  I've had a couple of pints since and really enjoyed them.  I wouldn't want to go through that experience again but it's good to know there's nothing wrong in the bowel area.
