Where it all began . . .
An historic overhead view of T.Q. Gildersleeves
original brewery, circa 1907.
These humble structures were photographed by the
Brewmaster himself, while standing atop a nearby water-
tower. Gildersleeves' initial name for his beer was
"Lobster Ale"
The Gildersleeves Taster's Complex
A shot of the Taster's Complex, located on Payne Avenue in Tonawanda.
It was here that extensive taste-testing was carried out on each new batch of
Lobster Ale. Note the discarded barrels. At times, many barrels had to be sampled
to satisfy the Brewmaster's strict control of quality. The entrance, at left of center, was also where the tons of beer nuts and pork rinds were delivered to the Tasting Technicians.
