GHOSTS IN MY MIND
_________________________________________________________________________________
Ghosts in my mind----always there
By Roger S. Barton
Think about them----do I dare
I try to keep them tucked away
They come out to haunt----every day
The ghosts are friends that I once knew
Friends that were both brave and true
All died in a span of just one year
For most I never shed a tear
Because in war, death comes each day
Each soldier mourns in his own way
I chose to store my grief inside
I guess it was my way to hide
But at peace I could not be
While these ghosts were haunting me
Then I realized----they aren't haunting
They are friends----merely wanting
To be remembered in some way
For the price they had to pay
Now finally after all these years
I at last can shed my tears
My ghosts will stay all my days
And I like it just that way
