A Soldiers Demise

A Soldiers Demise

It was many years ago
In the month of July
Sam called me up, said
Kiss the family goodbye.

Off to a War
A War in Vietnam
Off to a War
Didn't know I'd be damned.

Can't get much sleep
With this poison in my head
Can't get much sleep
When I lay in my bed.

The battle still continues
Even though I'm not there
My family is all around me
Telling me that they care.

Off to a War
A War in Vietnam
Off to a War
That I didn't understand.

Can't make up my mind
To leave or to stay
Can't make up my mind
To go on another day.

There wasn't any good times
Only the bad
That War was full of pity
That War was mighty sad.

Off to a War
A War in Vietnam
Off to a War
I guess I was damned.

There's no turning back
The history of that time
There's no getting back
My proper state of mind.

I guess I'll go on
One day at a time
Praying to the Lord
Just to keep my Mind.
