Brief History of the Philippine Shih Tzu Club  1978-1999

HOW IT ALL BEGAN

The Shih Tzu was first introduced into the Philippines in the early '70's.  The first one registered with the Philippine Canine Club, Inc. was a 14 lb. liver and white import from Australia, KAOLIN HWANG HO.  "Kung Fu" as this dog was fondly called by his owner, Mr. Benjamin Romualdez Jr. sired one litter in his lifetime.  He was bred to a black & white U.S. import, SAN YEN FOO JIN NIKOL.  This was the first recorded Philippine born litter whelped on October 22, 1975.  The litter consisted of two males, ACHILLES YUMI and ACHILLES YOGI BEAR, the latter finished his Philippine Championship title.

In 1977 a young black & white male, ACHILLES JUNE PEANUTS, a half-brother of Ch Yogi Bear, became the country's first Shih Tzu Philippine Champion of record.

As the Shih Tzu was fast growing in popularity, a group of fanciers banded together and decided the time was right to form a breed club with the mission of further promoting the Shih Tzu in the Philippines.  At a meeting held on April 1978 at the Syquia residence, the PHILIPPINE SHIH TZU CLUB was born.  At that organizational meeting, the following were elected as officers and directors of the Club:
