| I went to see Alice on the Underground at Birmingham Repertory Theatre on Thursday 22nd July with a group of friends and I had no idea that Philip Reed was appearing in the show. It was a bit of a shock to see him but I recognised him instantly as I have seen him previously as Cookie in Return to the Forbidden Planet at Birmingham Hippodrome and as Edek in The Silver Sword at the Nottingham Playhouse. Alice on the Underground is an updated version of the Lewis Carroll classic Alice in Wonderland and the show is just brilliant. Emma Cambridge as Alice is just sensational and it was very moving to watch her as Emma suffers from Downs Syndrome. Philip is just part of the onstage band and plays guitar during the show, they never leave the stage and even though it seems like he doesnt do a lot this is a really important part of the show. The show deals with some of the major issues of today, drugs, sex and many others and because of this I would say that the show isnt suitable for young children but I am 14 and understood fully the messages that the show was giving out. I understand that the show is going to be playing at Hornchurch this August and if you can then go and see it as it is a very entertaining night out. Heres hoping that Philip will be back in the Midlands before too long and I will see him again. Fan |
