| I travelled down to Eastbourne to see the final night of The Titfield Thunderbolt and it was the first time I had seen the show since it was at Hornchurch. It was a disappointing audience as the theatre wasnt even half full and the people who were there werent laughing all that much so I thought what a disappointing end to the tour it was, even though the cast were giving it their all. The show hadnt changed at all from when it was at Hornchurch although all the cast have eased more into their parts and it did look like they were all enjoying themselves lots. Really over the top acting from Loveday Smith as Miss Coggitt's he was using hand actions during her speech and it really did make me laugh and Im sure that Phil wondered what she was doing. Paul Leonard is still brilliant and I just love him as Mr Valentine and Kate OMara looks a lot more at ease than she did at the start of the show. Phil Reed has got so much better in all his parts and Mrs Bottomley is now one of the highlights of the show having both audience and cast smiling. Finally Steven Pinder, Im not sure what has happened to Steven as he is just so lively and doesnt seem to be taking the show seriously at all. A few hitches with fluffed lines and the water tower started to move forward when Phil put his head under it and he had to hold it to stop it sliding any further. I really did enjoy seeing the show again. Just a little extra fact, Emily Gardner was one of the techs on the show, and could be seen at the back of the train when it comes on. Helen Gilchrist |
