I was lucky enough to go to see The Silver Sword on Saturday night in Nottingham and I have to say that it was marvellous.  The standard of the acting was superb with the whole cast shining.

Phil plays the role of Edek, the son of the family featured and he is meant to grow up before your eyes, I must admit I wasn't too sure about Phil playing a young boy but he is very convincing.  It was quite amazing to grown ups playing children but it works really well.  Watch out for the part where Phil has a really bad cough it will really make you wince as it sounds so realistic.

Ian plays a variety of roles in The Silver Sword, the nastiest of which is the Bergemiester.  I felt that Ian was excellent in the show but it's a pity that he didn't have slightly larger parts to
play.  In my opinion he would have made a brilliant Jan!

It's a story that will make you think, and I saw many people in the audience with tears in their eyes as some of things that happen are pretty horrific.

While there is a happy ending, what cost was the war to the young children who lost parents and were forced to grow up before their time and face horrors that no child should have to see.

If you can get to Nottingham to see the show then do as it's a fantastic piece of theatre with a great cast.  I would say that this show is a definite must see if you like theatre and good story or are fans of either Phil or Ian.

It's on at the Nottingham Playhouse until July 12th.
