Keep on Running is Bob Carltons new musical and its just brilliant.

I booked to see the show on the first preview and have now seen the show 19 times as it is that good and each time it just gets better and better as the cast get more assured in their roles.

All the cast are brilliant but the highlights have to be Simon Jessop as Bob, Phil Reed as Don, Nick Lashbrook as Dancer and Emily Gardner as Kathy.

Phil does sing and act his heart out during this show, singing songs ranging from the very high energy Friday on my Mind, where Simon and him have so much fun, to the beautiful ballad Nights in White Satin which shows what a powerful voice he has.

Simon Jessop is a scream as Bob, and the character is very much a comedy role.  The scene in the cinema is really funny and one that you have to watch closely for all the facial expressions.  Its a pity that you dont get to hear him singing a bit more.

Nick is really funny as Dancer, he doesnt have many lines but the ones he does have are funny and he has a great couple of confrontations with Phil.  In this show Nick is predominately the drummer so you dont get to hear him sing although he does do a small bit during the encore and you do hear him during the anti-war chants.

Emily Gardner is the real revelation as Kathy, Ive seen her in a number of shows at the Queens and always thought she gave a very average performance but in this she is sensational.  She has such a fantastic voice which really suits the rock/pop songs in the show.  Her best scene has to be the hospital one at the end of the show where she asks Don to kill her it brought a lump to my throat seeing it.

The show deals with some very serious issues such as sex, drugs and euthanasia but all of them are dealt with in an excellent and sympathetic way.

At the time of writing this review there are only another seven performances to go and I am going to be at all of them.
