I saw the first preview of Romeo and Juliet at Hornchurch and thought that it was wonderful and even better than A Midsummer Nights Dream was last year.

Nick Lashbrook plays Tybalt and The Watch with Tybalt being the bigger of the two parts.  Tybalt is a Capulet and a wonderful duellist and this is shown in the opening scene when there is a confrontation between Tybalt and Bathazar, servant to Romeo who is son of the head of the Montagues.  This is an impressive start with both of them drawing swords from inside walking canes.

Tybalt also picks a fight with Mercutio played by Jonathan Marwood, Mercutio is a friend of Romeos and Tybalt kills him during the duel, Romeo then gets his revenge by killing Tybalt.  This is a particularly gory end for Nicks character as it involves him being stabbed in the stomach several times as well as having his throat slashed.

Phil Reed plays the aforementioned Bathazar as well as Paris, after the opening scene Balthzar is not seen again.  Paris is in love with and wants to marry Juliet unaware that she is in love with Romeo.

He is devastared to find her dead on their wedding day and is horrified to find Romeo in her tomb afeter she has been buried.he starts a fight with Romeo and ends up being killed by him with a crowbar.  Its a gruesome end and one that phil portrays very convincingly.

Both Nick and phil are brilliant in the show, getting to show off their sword fighting skills in some very action packed sequences and I must admit that my favourite sequence is the one right at the beginning when they are fighting each other.

There are long periods when neither of them is on stage but when they do appear they are fantastic.

Its a great show and one that I would definitely recommend that you go and see.

WELL DONE NICK AND PHIL, YOU WERE JUST GREAT.
