| Phils one smart Cookie: Return to the Forbidden Planet By Christine van Emst The Olivier Award winning cult rock extravaganza, Return to the Forbidden Planet, is back in orbit at Wimbledon Theatre from March 18 to March 23. Join Captain Tempest and his lunar crew in this smash hit musical, written and directed by Bob Carlton. Loosely based on Shakespeare's The Tempest, this musical has it all a mad scientist, scary monsters, a secret X factor formula, romance and loads of the Bard's famous lines, each with a sci-fi twist. The show has a cast of 12 multi-talented actors who play at least four instruments each. One of them is Philip Reed who plays the part of Cookie. Philip, 28, has been in productions of Return to the Forbidden Planet since 1999. "I love this show and it always seems to draw me back. This time around as Cookie, the spaceship's chef, I make the X factor. It's a show where we all move around the stage playing, singing and acting. It's brilliant. "In between Planets I've worked in a Chorus of Disapproval and was Richie Valans in Three Steps to Heaven," he said. Philip has a BA (Hons) in Performing Arts, and as well as a strong singing voice plays guitar, piano, drums and sax. When this current tour of Return to the Forbidden Planet finishes at the end of April, he wants to concentrate on his acting career. "I want to go down the acting path, and in the future possibly have a crack at telly. But I'll always be playing music even if it's just for myself, " he said. Meanwhile you can see him as Cookie rocking in outer space at Wimbledon Theatre from Monday, March 18 to Saturday, March 23. For details and tickets call the box office on 020 8540 0362. The production will also be staged at the Hawth, Crawley, from Monday, April 8 to Saturday April 13. Call box office on 01293 553636 . Croydon Guardian - 13th March 2002 |
