Ive been a fan of Phil Reeds since I first saw him in Return to the Forbidden Planet so when I heard he was going to be in The Good Intent I booked my tickets straight away.

The Good Intent is a new play by local writers and concentrates on a local story.  The star of the show is Ben Goddard as Raimund Sanders Draper, hes an American who came over to the UK to fly Spitfires, hes a likeable bloke who gets on well with locals and fellow pilots alike.  He performs a heroic act by choosing to save the lives of hundreds of school children rather than his own life.

Nick Lashbrook is just brilliant as Jim, a Hornchurch resident who was in the Navy but couldnt face going back after he was injured.  Its obvious Jim has some deep rooted problems which he needs to face instead of running away, Sanders Draper says that he will help him if he gives himself up but Jim tells him that he can sort it out himself.  Towards the end of the story Jim decides to go back to the Navy and fight again.

Phil Reed is fantastic as Charlie, a Spitfire pilot.  He has some great scenes with Loveday Smith who plays Edie the girl he is in love with.  Theirs is a tragic love story as he dies whilst fighting.  This role gives Phil a chance to show what a great actor he is, theres fun when Charlie tries to teach Sanders Draper how to play cricket and he doesnt understand the rules.  Phil also gets to show off his great singing voice and he plays the guitar as well as the double bass which I didnt know he could play so well.
