| The 50th Anniversary Gala at The Queens Theatre, Hornchurch took place on Sunday 21st September 2003. Philip Reed was one of many performers who took part; Phil first took to the stage to sing Its Easy to Sing from Salad Days with Ben Goddard and Sarah Redmond. He was dressed in a dinner jacket with a black tie and he looked very smart. His hair was longer than Id seen it in either A Midsummer Nights Dream or Return to the Forbidden Planet and I wondered if he was growing it for a part. He came back on to sing Any Dream Will Do from Joseph, its probably the most well known song from the show and Phil sang it with confidence and he sounded brilliant in my opinion he would make a fantastic Joseph. The second half came and Phil and other Cut to the Chase members sang the title song from Fings Aint Wot They Used TBe, he was stood next to Jane Milligan and it was great to see them working together again. Then came, in my opinion, the best bit of the whole gala, Phil, Matt Devitt and Julian Littman all performing Shes Not There. It was interesting to see how each of them performed and I could imagine each of them played Cookie very differently. It was an absolutely fantastic bit of the gala and well worth the wait and it was the final song performed. I did feel that parts of the gala were a bit long and it did drag in places, the end of the show was disappointing as none of the performers came on stage to take a bow and also the gala was meant to have been introduced by Bob Carlton but he never appeared on stage. Im glad that I did attend as Phil was just outstanding now I cant wait for the next thing he is in. Gilly Halliday. |
