| The Queen launches Queen�s Theatre�s 50th Anniversary The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh visited the Queen�s Theatre, Hornchurch on Thursday 6 March, to officially launch the Queen�s Theatre�s 50th Anniversary. Bob Carlton, Artistic Director said, �The Queen�s Theatre was founded in 1953, the same year that Elizabeth II was crowned in Westminster, so it is a fitting start to the celebrations that The Queen should join us in our 50th Anniversary Year. The visit was a huge success and a great way to celebrate the theatre's ongoing success. On her way around the theatre The Queen commented that we should be very proud of the theatre's achievements and that she found the diversity of work commendable." During the visit they were treated to several performances, highlighting the Queen�s Theatre�s excellent work. Members of the Queen�s Youth Theatre performed �We�re Off� from Willy Russell�s Our Day Out and cut to the chase� the theatre�s professional resident company performed an extract from their critically acclaimed production, The Lost World by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, adapted by Nobby Dimon. The royal party went on to meet the Queen�s Theatre�s resident company currently rehearsing for a special production of A Midsummer Night�s Dream, opening on 17 March. She met the theatre�s resident Artistic Team, theatre staff and representatives from the wider theatre community including theatre patrons, Community Play company, Theatre Club members and representatives from various funding bodies. Before departing, The Queen unveiled a plaque to commemorate the visit and to officially launch the Queen's Theatre's 50th Anniversary.
