| Cursed with the joy of laughter Curses The Queens Theatre, Hornchurch As that rarest of beings, a musical horror-comedy, Cut The Chases production of Curses! struck all the right notes at the Queens. Inspired by the 1944 film of Oscar Wildess short story The Canterville Ghost, this production is another hit for the theatres resident company, following the recent success of Whos Afraid of Virginia Woolf. As ever, the set design was superb while the ghostly special effects were extremely sophisticated and wouldnt have looked out of place in the West End. Among the always excellent performers, I would single out Stuart Organ, of Grange Hill fame, as the seemingly omniscient butler Umney. His Elvis routine was a hoot, as was his characters line in double entendres. And Catherine Hamilton as the Knight familys daughter Virginia added a spark as the love interest opposite Philip Reed as Julian Canterville. An excellent all-round production, Curses runs until Saturday November 26. Tickets are from 9 17 from the box office on 01708 443333.
