I had resigned myself to the fact that he wasn�t there and carried on enjoying the show and Nick was in fine form as Buttons shouting to the audience and getting them to respond.
Soon it was time for the ugly sisters, Salmonella and Diptheria, to make their first appearance, you hear their voices off stage before you see them and when they came on I was shocked to not see Steve as Salmonella but Phil. He did look so good in the costumes and full make up.
It took me a couple of minutes to take in what was happening but Phil was well into it, adlibbing and making Catherine and Chris laugh. I was really surprised by how good Phil was and he seemed so confident like it was something that he had always done.
On the downside I did miss Phil as Minim and the music sounded a bit flat without his flute or guitar playing, you never realise how important something is until it�s not there.
I�m so glad that I managed to see Phil as I believe he only did 4 performances and I also believe that he learnt the part overnight which is really good going and you would never have known except for a couple of fluffed lines but that made things even funnier.
Could this brief interlude signal a new direction for Phil in pantos in future, I do hope so as he really does have a flair for it.
Really well done Phil, you did so good.
