| I saw the first preview of A View from the Bridge on Friday night and the show is totally brilliant. Phil plays Rodolpho and he has dyed his hair blonde for the part, there had been speculation about what Phil was going to do but dying was never mentioned. Its said that Phil plats both the saxophone and flute in the show but I dont know when as no instruments are played on stage. Its a good 15 to 20 minutes before Phil is first on stage but it is worth the wait, he speaks with an Italian accent and makes an instant impression on Catherine (Maria Lawson). Phil sings jazz in the show, a song called Paper Doll which is done unaccompanied and again it gives Phil a chance to show off his voice which does suit jazz. Phil is seen loads in the show and is a much stronger part to any I have seen him do before. The fight in the final scene, which Phil tries to break up, is very spectacular and very well staged. And there is a very moving conclusion to the play. In my own opinion this is a brilliant show and a fantastic part for Phil and that gives him so much scope. Go and see this show if you can. Phil Fan P.S. Not sure if the blonde hair suits him or not! |
