Hooray - top-quality panto you can sit back and thoroughly enjoy, thanks to a witty script, live music from Carol Sloman and actor/musicians Edward Bruggemeyer, Ben Goddard, Philip Reed and Margit van der Zwan, Rodney Fords colourful designs and Matt Devitts direction.

Seasoned pros to the smallest of the in-house trained young company make sure we enjoy ourselves as much as they clearly are. Comedy of the knockabout sort is in the safe hands of Richard Emerson and his Mummerset-speaking Idle Jack, while David Millers Pandora the Panda helps out too.

Richard Dax makes Widow Twankey great fun, aided by Jean Roberts extravagant frocks, while Nathan Hamletts Emperor of China has a good line in whacking his Vizier on the head. The latter is crawlingly played by Eamonn ODwyer, who really comes into his own as the Genie, all snake hips and lithe acrobatics. James Waverley is a good Abanazer.

There is no question of sloppy romance and embarrassing love songs from Emily Gardner and Maria Lawsons Aladdin and So-Shy - it is more subtle than that. Sheer entertainment with a warm heart that sends you home feeling great - a super Christmas present to the Queens audience.
