Lesson 5:  Normal Distributions
Section notes:

5-2 Data Desk activity:  You are shown how to create a normal probability plot.  You will not be taught how to do this by hand, but you should know how to make one with Data Desk, and interpret it.

5-3 Z-scores:  Note that you can use the online Normal Density Tool and Normal Table Tool for completing homework.  You should also learn how to do the same work using the hardcopy table on page 376-377 of the textbook.  Notice that the textbook table information is slightly different from that found in the Normal Table Tool.  Entries in the body of the textbook table represent areas (relative frequencies) below the z-score.  The tool shows areas above the z-score.  No problem; since the total area is 1, any entry in one table is 1- (the entry given in the other table).
