You will need your ActivStats CD-ROM and a PC with a CD-ROM drive. Insert the CD-ROM in the drive.
You should see the "ActivStats Setup" window.
If you have your own PC on which you will be doing most of your work, you may want to use the option "Install". You probably shouldn't install the product on a machine that's not your own. ActivStats can always be run from the CD-ROM.
The next window will be the "Welcome to ActivStats" window.
The first time through, click on "New Student File", and follow the directions. Your "Serial Number" is on the "Quick Start Card".
You will be asked to save your "Student Record". If you are not starting out on your own machine, you will probably want to save your student record on a floppy disk to take with you. You can temporarily save it on the hard disk, and copy it over to a floppy later.
On future times through (once you have established a "Student Record" on hard disk or floppy), you will click on "Open Student File". You will be asked to locate your student record, using standard Windows methods. Ask for help with this, if necessary.
The next window takes you to the on-line book, "1-1 Introduction". You may want to maximize that window. The first 1 of the 1-1 corresponds to "Lesson 1" of your paperback text (see its table of contents).
Note the tabs at the right of the window. Click on "Contents" to see the table of contents of the book. You may have to drag the new window to see it in its entirety. Note that, just as in the book, the lessons in ActivStats go from 1 to 24. You can click on any lesson in "Contents" and go to it directly. Note that you can click on the +'s or -'s in the "Contents" window to expand or contract the book outline (standard PC stuff).
You are now ready to make your way through Lesson 1.
