1. Poppies

long, long ago, in china, I'm told, to england
was traded, some tea, and so sealed the fate,
in pieces of eight, all england and all of the
world, yeah, poppies

when soon his majesty, sent soldiers and thieves,
to india searching for gold, instead from the ground
some magic they found, something far better, I'm
told, yeah, poppies, yeah, poppies

and now this story told, from days of our own, when
gossamer doggies, ran ran, they'd patiently wait,
with pieces of eight, so everybody, could smile, one
more time, yeah, popies, yeah, poppies

2. Sex and Candy

hangin' 'round, downtown by myself, and I
had so much time, to sit and think about
myself, and then there she was, like double
cherry pie, yeah there she was, like disco superfly

I smell sex and candy, here, who's that lounging,
in my chair, who's that casting, devious stares
in my direction, mama this surely is a dream, yeah,
mama this surely is a drea, diggit

hangin' 'round, downtown by myself, and I had too
much caffine, and I was, thinkin' 'bout myself, and
then there she was, in platform double suede, yeah
there she was, like disco lemondae

I smell sex and candy, here, who's that lounging,
in my chair, who's that casting, devious stares in
my direction, mama this surely is a dream, yeah,
yeah, mama this must be my dream, diggit, yeah,
mama this surely is a dream, yeah (x2)

3. Ancient Wall of Flowers

ancient walls of flowers, tumblin' down, black cat petals,
and a smiling clown, I like to keep them in a jar beside,
just enough to mess my mind inside

but I never heard you callin' from the sun, did you ever
care, to shoot your silver gun, no I never heard, you callin'
from the moon, did you ever care, to sing your free love tune

ancient walls of whispers, falling low, murmur simmer, and
I'm feeling slow, keep me up, but keep me in my head, I'll
ping a pound of posies 'til I'm dead

but I never heard you callin' from the sun, did you ever care,
to shoot your silver gun, no I never heard, you callin' from
the moon, did you ever care, to sing your free love tune (x2)

ancient walls of flowers, tumblin' down, ancient walls of
flowers, tumblin' down, ancient walls of whispers, tumblin' down,
ancient walls are tumblin' all over this town

4. Saint Joe on the School Bus

saint joe, he said he's never been, dressed up
like a woman, saint joe, they said your dad was
gay, they said your mom she's a whore, they said
it 'til you were raw, yeah, they said your mom she's
a bore, and they made her beg them for more

my aunt mary, aunt mary, aunt mary, says they have
the darkness, there, in their eyes

saint joe, he said he's never been, made up like a
woman, saint joe, the time is coming when, when mary
never will return, when mary never will come back here,
yeah, mary never will return, oh mary please come home

o' my, aunt mary, aunt mary, aunt mary, says they have
the darkness, there, in their eyes

o' my, aunt mary, aunt mary, aunt mary, says they have
the darness, there, they have the family disease, they
have the darkness, there, in their minds

5. A Cloak of Elvenkind

why on this summer evening, oh, oh, oh, oh, sixteen
books on magic spells, stacked below the cload of elves,
and sixteen books on magic spells, so elegantly bound,
and I know I, I, I could not say why, why, why on this
summer evening, oh, oh, oh, oh, and I know something,
something about you, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, and I know something,
something, about you, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh

a cloaking robe of elvenkind, hangs in my wardrobe behind,
all those things that mother said, were proper for a boy

sublime, molly, has gone to spain, has gone with
venus, to watch the rain, and it seems that's not
the place where you belong, and it seems that's not
the place where you belong, when there's no sun,
and there's no moon, and there's no stars, child,
have you gone crazy

come back and be, come back for free, come back and
stay, child, have you gone crazy

9. One More Suicide

christopher o' malley, went out on a bridge,
down in chehalis, and clutching his bible, and
a letter from her, fell into the river, pity
no one was there, no angels, in the air, and
the morning paper ran, one more suicide, yeah

his mama stayed by the river side, down in chehalis,
and clutching her bible, and a letter from him,
fell into crying, pity no one was there, no angels,
in the air, and the morning paper ran, one more

the morning paper ran, one more suicide, yeah, one
more suicide, yeah, one more suicide, yeah

10. Dog and His Master

hey little boy, see the johnny and janes, hey
little boy, you see them all go insane, look
and see spot run, cause he pissed in their hallway,
run spot run, run away from it all, and I say,
you can be any way that you wanna be, how I'll be,
that's up to me

hey little girl, see them all run around, hey little

janey will buy, spot will beg, but everyone dies, as

nine little idiots, all dressed up to die (x2) and I say
you can be any way that you wanna be, but how I'll be,
that's up to me

11. The Shadow of Seattle

rain, like tin angels falling down, like a mission,
and we're halfway there, from some old dried up,
fried forgotten town, why, won't they let us be ourselves,
with our potential, we could, toe the line,
and show the bastards up with our divine light, light,
light, light

seize, all the records from the past, hold for ransom,
all the artifacts, this ragged town protects them to the last,
with lies, lies, lies, lies

see them running, heading homeward to seattle

deem, all the liars in your tribe, to be the fires on the western side,
of some old front we call the war of art, rain,
like tin angels falling down, like a mission, and we're halfway there,
from some old dried up, fried forgotten town, from some old dried up,
fried forgotten town, to some old dried up, fried forgotten town

12. The Vampires of New York

come see the vampires of new york, come lose your mind
in central park, but don't leave your soul behind,
come take in 8th street after dark, such peculiar people,
you'll remark, you might even see a murder, and all the
whores on sleecker street, they wear the blissful grin,
cause by the drugs they take to relieve them of their sins,
and, "oh lord, I think she's dying," I heard somebody say,
I think she's dying and, "oh, oh, lord, I think she's dying"

or maybe she's already dead, and maybe she's gone to mars,
maybe we could even write her epitaph in the stars, it'd say,
"if you go away from here, if you go a million miles,"
come downtown, to see them go, into the den of the vampires
of new york, but please watch your step, as you're getting off, kids
