Audit

It is quite apt that I quote Churchill at this points of my write up, “However beautiful the strategy, you should occasionally look at the results.” And that is what we are going to try and do next Sunday.

The idea is to find out how our meetings are going and what are we getting from them? What else can we do and where are we going wrong? We might also try to get to the point by asking what one of our friends asked me: do we want conclusions? do we want to share real experiences or just stay in the abstract level of how things are or 'should be'? And of course can we please all the people all the time? And to that we might add, should we try to change things Or should we allow the second law of thermodynamics do the bidding for us?

During the other half of the meeting I suggest we have a sort of question and answer session. In this open forum session we can ask those questions which have always bothered us, but we never had the opportunity to ask. I’m sure we can also come up with some questions we can use in our Sunday meetings, in the meantime here are some ideas:

What is life? What is it to be a human being? Is there re-incarnation? What are present experiences? What function does dread have? Does sanity exist? Freudian slips? How do we trust our memories? Should cloning be allowed? Nature or Nurture? Can we choose the life we want? “I believe it when I see,” the best policy to treat people? Is there a limit to knowledge? Are we probably here? Should our actions have consequences? Out of sight, out of mind? Is it possible for God to create the universe we are in? What is beauty? What responsibility do we have for what we say? Should we get what we want? Do we get what we deserve? Possession is two thirds of the Law? Can we be happy?

Is love taken for granted? Are friends taken for granted? How do we know we exist? Is there justice? Do our assumptions affect our knowledge or knowledge affects our assumptions? What is the difference between information and knowledge? Is objective knowledge possible? Can we live in a world where there is not evil? What is a rational being? Is there a law that says we have to be rational? Why is the world the way it is? Should beauty be bio-engineered? Should we feed the hungry with baked beans on toast?

Why bother? Who cares? How many? What is it all for? Where are we going? Where did we come from? Is it true or false? How long is a piece of string? Why not? And finally, What is the answer?

Take care, see you Sunday, Lawrence
