When Banpresto released Super Robot Wars F on the Sega Saturn, they were planning a final 2 CD game to finish off the whole Super Robot series on any system.  However, because of time constraints, Banpresto had to cut the game into 2: Super Robot Wars F and Super Robot Wars F Final.  Since this game still uses the same graphics and game engine as the original, there aren't any big leaps over graphics.  They remain as they were from a game ago.  However, there are some minor changes which made the game a bit more challenging and enjoyable.

First, graphicwise, even the menus and the opening credits are a complete re-hash from Super Robot Wars F.  There isn't any big improvements over this area.  Some of the character's portraits have been re-drawn (although these aren't quickly noticable).  The palette colors of movement blocks have also changed a bit, and again these choices are not so noticable.  Surprisingly, even words that are mis-spelled from the first game are still mis-spelled in this game (e.g. Shining became Shininig).  The biggest differences in graphics lay in 2 things: first, the berserking Eva.  The pixelated Evangelion was replaced with a full-sized berserking Eva which brings out a better feel of an Evangelion gone mad.  Second, there are some gun explosion effects that are cooler than the first one, but these only come out at the later parts of the game.

The graphics department maybe falling a bit behind, but the people in the sound department seem to be doing their job.  The hisses from the passed game's voices are now a bit clearer.  The sampling rate of the voices and sound effects are much better now.  The BGMs have been re-mixed to give a better treble-bass mix rather than the flat sounding music from the first part of the game.

Like the first Robot Wars, this game is a sequel.  This game begins at Scenario 34 (the last stage where Robot Wars F left off).  One thing I like about this game is its ability to make you choose if you want to use your previous game's save game from Robot Wars F or if you like, the CPU will randomly generate your character.  I would rather prefer to use my save game from the previous Robot Wars F to make the game a bit more challenging than usual.  The gameplay has been wisened a bit from the last one.  You see, in the last Robot Wars, the plot was simple: kill all enemies and you win or protect a ship at all cost.  Now, in this sequel, there are some scenarios that require your troop to escape or to hide or to go to a certain area.  It's quite cool since the gameplay isn't static anymore.  But if you can't understand Japanese, better wait for an FAQ to appear on the Net.

Generally Super Robot Wars F Final is still Super Robot Wars.  If you are a big fan of the series or of Japanese animation mechas, then this game is a real bargain.  This is one of the classics from the 16-bit age that it still one of the best around.
