Distemper- This virus attacks all the tissue in the body. It may present itself with cold like symptoms; Fever, runny nose&eyes, poor appetite, and vomitting& diarreah. This is rarely curable, and if cured your dog can be prone to severe nervous disorders. Distemper affects young and senior dogs.
Hepatitis- Hepatitis is a virus that affects a dogs liver and kidneys. It presents itself with high fever, lack of appetite, and depression. . Animals who have recovered with hepatitis are usually plagued with chronic illness. This virus is is most dangerous to puppies and young dogs.
Leptospirosis- This bacterial disease used to be fatal unti a vaccine was created. It can cause high fever, depression, jaundice, and internal bleeding. The disease is spread from contaminated urine of an infected animal. It also runs the risk of being transmitted from canines to humans.
Parvovirus- Once upon a time diagnosis of this disease ment certain death, but now with proper vaccinations, diagnosis, and immediate treatement, it can be managable. This disease causes diterioration of bone marrow and the intestinal tract, ultimately causing the dog to internally bleed to death. Symptoms present themself with loss of appetite, bloody stool, severe vomitting, and collapsing. This disease is spread through infected waste.
Rabies- A disease transferred through an infected animals saliva, i.e. a bite. Rabies attacks the nervous system and nerve tissue, resulting in dementia, paralysis, and death.
Bordetella(Kennel Cough)- This disease is highly contagious and is caused by several organisms. Although Kennel cough is not fatal, but if left untreated it could lead to Bronchopneumonia. Symptoms present with caughing, sneezing, hacking, nasal discharge, and retching that lasts from several days to weeks.
Lyme disease- This disease is usaully acquired from a bite of an infected deer tick. Symptoms include acute lameness, fever, swelling of joints, and loss of appetite.
