Atlantic Crossroads
Newfoundland 2005
After a bit, we left for Erins where Jim wanted to record Martin and Colleen for the podcast. Martin was singing a Beatles song when we got there and seemed to have the audience in the palm of his hand. He sang a funny song with a ton of clichs in it. Said he had sent it away to an American record company and the label had sent it back to him with the complaint that it had every clich in the book. Duh! That was the whole point! They just didnt get it, he said as he shook his head in disbelief. Martin's songs are the kind that hit you after he has left the stage. Something that seemed so simple on the surface will make you stop a bit later and marvel at the deeper meaning. I got some photos of Martin and that made everyone who had been photographed.
Clare and Niall came back from the Celtic Hearth after their sets to see Colleen play. Colleen has really mixed it up with the songs during her sets. I dont think shes sung the same combination any night. Since I was in photo mode this evening, I really didn't get too fussed about writing down who sang what songs. But I know her set tonight was different than the other nights with some of the songs the same. Her songs have been going through my mind so much this week I finally bought her new CD. It's great! I highly recommend it. The Australians LOVED her and were sad when she was done at 2:00 AM. But they stuck around and got an earful after the festival was over for the evening.
A slew of people from Australia were in attendance at Erins and they made it clear they enjoyed the musicians this evening. Colleen was a bit late getting from The Ship to Erins, so Jim got up and sang Downtown Girl and told everyone about the Gala on Thursday.
