Christian Fredericksen was born on April 5, 1803 in Hjorring, Hjorring, Denmark to Elsie Christine Christensdatter and Fredrick Christensen Baker. Maren Christensdatter was born on June 28, 1803 in Rubejerg, Hjorring, Denmark to Maren Lundsdatter and Christen Christensen. They were married on November 4, 1825, in Christian's birthplace.

Eleven children were born to this couple, only six of them living to be adults. Their first child was born December 25, 1826 in Hjorring. They named him Fredrick

Julius because he was born on Christmas. Marie Elizabeth was born a year and a half later on August 19, 1828. A second daughter, Caroline Amalia, arrived September 21,1830, but she died three months later. Amelia Kristine was born August 22, 1832 in Wraa, Hjorring, Denmark. She died when she was just over three months old. Maren Kristine was also born in Wraa on September 26, 1833. She died before she was a year old. The next three children were born in Steenboen Taars, Hjorring. Caroline Amelia arrived August 27, 1835, Peter Cristen on August 21, 1837 and Willummine Jacobine on November 27, 1839. Peter Cristen died when he was three years old. When their next son arrived on July 30, 1841, they named him Christian Peter. Their last two children were born in Lilli Krogen, Hjorring. Laris Christen arrived on March 6, 1844, but died when he was two. Stephen Carl was born December 26, 1845.

Father Christian provided sufficient means for his family. He made spinning wheels, and at least his oldest son Fredrick Julius worked with him and learned the trade. The family also owned a few cows and sheep which the children helped to care for. In his autobiography Fredrick Julius states they were not poor. They no doubt gave all their living children the opportunity of attending school during their early years as they did their oldest son.

When the Mormon missionaries came to Denmark Christian and Maren were against the doctrine. Even though Fredrick Julius was interested and believed what was taught, he dropped contact with the missionaries to please his father. However Fredrick Julius prayed to be blessed with the spirit to do what was right and eventually he was baptized a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. This must have been a great disappointment to his parents, Christen and Maren, especially when Fredrick emigrated to Utah.

Christian died in Haestrup, Hjorring, Denmark on June 15, 1863, eight years after his oldest son went to Utah. Maren lived for nineteen more years. She died October 25, 1882, just a year before her son Fredrick Julius returned to Denmark on a mission.
