PHILLIP WILCHER CD REVIEW :Out of the Blowing Sands
CD Review:Out of the Blowing Sands

The title is taken from the 13th of 21 short descriptive pieces for piano recorded on CD (the composer's second) by Jeanell Carrigan.Wilcher writes extremely well for the piano, with a fine ear for the instrument's sonorities and poetic potential. This is music by an Australian whose roots are obviously grounded in the Liszt to Debussy period and who is producing outstandingly crafted piano music within the range of many amateurs in its technical difficulty. A worthy addition to the library of Australiana, it is well recorded and with excellent piano sound. Biographies accompany the CD, and both CD and the music scores are available from the Australian Music Centre, PO Box N690, Grosvenor Place, NSW.1220
