| PHILLIP WILCHER'S ISLAND NOCTURNE for Cello and Piano Reviewed | ||||||||||
| Phillip Wilcher's ISLAND NOCTURNE reflects the mood of the descriptive verse which is printed on the opening page of this well-presented composition. An effective performance of this work will result in a beautifully languid, balmy, serene, and dream-like atmosphere. The piece is technically not demanding. In all breve time with simple rhythmic patterns and relatively manageable position changes, ISLAND NOCTURNE would suit a student approximately Grade Three standard. There are no fingering or bowing indications, this being left to the performer's discretion. The phrasing however, is clearly marked and changes of tempo are boldly indicated. Published in Australia at minimum cost, this piece should well be in all cello teachers' library. Matthews Tyson Review source: Music Teacher Magazine (Vol 6 no. 1) |
