PHILLIP WILCHER REVIEWED   Etchings: The Music of Phillip Wilcher played by Jeanell Carrigan
CD Review: Etchings
Jeanell Carrigan plays the Piano Music of Phillip Wilcher

Here is another CD of Wilcher's piano music to add to one's collection. It is obvious that the composer feels a close empathy with various ancient civilisations and the listener is taken on quite a tour in the 16 works comprising this CD. However it is the New World which has the last word here - the piece, 'One Tuesday in September'. Describing Wilcher's reaction to the September 11 tragedy, it is a compelling work, performed (as every piece is performed here) with complete conviction by the pianist. It is succeeded by a brief 'Vale'. Apart from the 3-movement work 'Arabia', pieces are short and in many cases easy enough to attract performers and teachers requiring technically approachable, mature, and well-written piano music by Australian composers.

Both CD and scores of the music are available from the Australian Music Centre, PO Box N690, Grosvenor Place NSW 1220
